Is it safe to run the new 2200 castle motor on a mamba max on 4s

I havent been around in a while and my max is currently down due to a controler problem...the bullet came off the circut board when I unpluged the motor to clean it....Ive been running the v-twin set up for a while now with no problems

But as the new thred says......can I run the new 2200 5mm motor on 4s an a mamba max.."safely"...People ran neu's on them no problem...I dont race I just bash and dont have the cash to get the proper lipos the monster set up requires

I only want 30-35 mph and good run time but I want a single motor esc set up and no feigao

any help would be great..

Yeah, you should be ok. Just monitor ESC temps and gear down as necessary. Better to start with a low gear and work your way up until you get a good speed vs temperature compromise. Also, disable the BEC on the MM and use an external BEC or receiver pack.

Sounds great now its time to go grab a motor an esc.....18t is the stock gear that castle sells for the max n revo do you think I should start lower or no.......I dont plan on going higher

BrianG 04.08.2009 06:34 PM

Well, start with what you have and go from there. To keep ESC heat down, it will help to increase the punch control to something like 50-80%. The higher the number, the gentler the take-offs will be (and less heat).

Guys MMM 2200kv is 3000W motor, MM ESC (V1) is only 1000W ESC...

BrianG 04.09.2009 12:20 PM

Yeah, it's a 3000w motor, but not too many people use it to that level. You'd have to gear very high to pull that kind of power. And, at 4s, 3000w equates to 202A. A setup that draws this level of current would have 1.5 minute runtime. So we obviously don't use these motors at those levels.

Since we get ~20 minutes of runtime on 4s 5Ah packs, that means we are pulling average currents of ~15A with bursts around 120A. As long as the setup is geared right, the MM will work fine.

It will easily run on 4S......works like a charm.

mjderstine 04.09.2009 01:51 PM

going along with this topic.

what would be acceptable temps for the esc to be under? about 150? and down right?

BrianG 04.09.2009 03:53 PM

Yeah, 150*F is decent, but depends on ambient temps too. I like temps around 35-45*F above ambient. So, if it's 100*F outside, 145-150*F is ok. But if it's 40*F outside, I would expect 75-80*F. I'm sure you can see the problem with a setup that gets 150*F when it's 40*F outside...

mjderstine 04.09.2009 04:44 PM

i suire can, since i am in daytona beach. ambient is always around 80-90, so i would shoot for aaround 140 give or take 10

I ran a Neu 1515/1Y and a Mamba Max on 4s and 5s in my Losi truggy for over a year.
I sold it as a complete RTR and it is still running fine for the guy.

As long as you run a BEC and a fan on the Mamba you will be fine.

Joe Ford 04.16.2009 05:15 PM

Keep in mind...WE WILL NOT WARRANTY THE ESC WITH THIS SETUP. You break it you pay.

emaxxnitro 04.17.2009 10:14 PM

we know joe.
these little things are beasts though. im running mine 4s neu 1515 1y, temps around 130* and all the power of my mmm.
