Smartdiffs in the Muggy!
I just installed Smartdiffs, front and center in my Muggy. I'm very pleased to report that they work really well.
My setup: MMM, 5000 5s Zippy, Medusa 70mm 2000kv geared 12/49 I was running 50k diff oil front and center, 7k rear. It would wheelie at low to moderate speeds but it would always lift the front tires and spin them up to pizza-cutters. Turning with power on, it would always spin-up the inside wheel and push quite a bit. With the Smartdiffs, acceleration is much stronger using less throttle than before, more power is getting to the rears. It still spins up the fronts but much less than before. Instead of a couple of pizza cutters spinning in the air, now I'm seeing all four wheels spinning under hard acceleration with only a slight bias to the front. Still very controllable in a straight line, maybe even better than before. Turning under power is just amazing. Insted of some push, now it wants to dig in and carve a turn at impossible forward speeds. It will pull itself through a turn with incredible speed. I just can't get over what a difference these diffs make. Off-power btw, it turns way better than before also, feels lighter. Smartdiffs are not cheap but let me tell you guys, it's well worth the money. |

Will these fit in the LST2 housings or are they for the "8" family only? Any advantage to just using them in the front and not the center? Or do you need both front and center to really take advantge of them? I'm refering to running them in say a LST2 truck.

LST housings
They will fit all the Losi 8th diffs as far as I know, I've got them in my 8ight-b and Muggy. If I had to choose just one, I think it would be the front. Here's the big secret though; the diffs are all the same - buggy, truggy, front, center - it's all just the ring gear and they're all interchangeable - you will have to swap the bearings to use them in LST/ Muggy. So, if you're willing to do the work, you can try a diff in both positions and see for yourself.

I would go with the Slipperential if I was breaking drivetrain parts. (cough, cough, Savage, cough, cough):wink: So far, so good. The tunabilty of the diff portion of the Slipperential is the same as the stock diffs - oil viscosity - I wanted to try to limit the "diffing out" even more than 50k oil would do.
