2.2 inch wheels and tires?

Has anyone tried 1/10th scale truck size wheels and tires on their Maxx before? Im looking for something about the size of my Panther KLPs, but with a more off road oriented tread pattern. I tried the wheels off my brothers Stampede, and they were really close to fitting around the knuckles. I know Ill have to make a 12mm hex fit on my Emaxx, but that wont be a problem. I was wondering if anyone knows of any slightly larger inner diameter stadium truck wheels that are available for traxxas vehicles ( meaning they have a 12mm hex). Or any larger ID 1/10th ST wheels for that matter, Ill just have to figure out a different way to mount them.
Thanks for any help.

The only thing i can think of is using the HPI superstar 2.2 inch universal wheels, they have enough offset to clear the spindles and allow you options you want.

Funny, everybody here is going big and you are going smaller:p :D

You may be able to modify some 12mm hexes by drilling the hole to 6mm (not with a hand drill) and enlarging the pin slot.

With 1/10 tires, I would worry about them sagging because the Maxx has more weight to put on the tires than a 1/10 truck would.

I found a wheel that probably should work:

In the pic the hex mounting area is inside the inner edge of the rim. I think this is what crazyjr was saying about HPI superstars, but I cant seem to find them anywhere anymore. These SHOULD work, but Id still like to find a wheel with a ID that clears the knuckles, so I can keep the offset closer to stock.
And about the weight issue, I plan on getting the stiffest inserts Proline makes, and Ill be belting the tires with packing tape before they go on.

Thanks for all the responses, keep them coming.

that is funny that everyone else wants to go bigger while you want to go smaller :L: i am in a situation that i dont want to lose ground clearance/height:

i have 2.2 m2k's on a BL stampede and BL rustler; they are a great bashing in the yard tire, but at the track on packed surfaces they spin like crazy and are pretty useless.

i was thinking about a 2.2 pin tire, but you lose about 1" diameter and 1/2" ground clearance with them. to make up for the loss of ground clearance i purchased a set of stampede-to-maxx wheel adapters to run maxx wheels/tires. i have a set of maxx wheels with an unknown set of pin tires on them and they are only about 1/8-1/4" taller diameter than the 2.2 m2k's. will post pics when the adapters come in.

Well, Ive pretty much given up on this idea. I tried some other 2.2 wheels, and everything seems to come close to fitting, but interfers with the knuckles by a little bit. I would try dreemmling off some of the knuckles, but Im scared of the reduction in strength that would cause. I decided on 1/8 buggy wheels instead, because I can get a more off road oriented tread than my KLPs, without the weight and gearing issues of stock maxx sized tires (which is what I was trying to accomplish with the ST tires and wheels). Ive already ordered the adapters and a first set of buggy wheels and tires.
Thanks for all the help.

Hey -

Did you get the rims mounted ok?

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 04.05.2006 02:46 AM

I just mounted these wheels on my Maxx. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJSU1&P=7 They are from the XTM XLB. I had the adapters. It dropped over a half pound in weight by going to these smaller wheels.

I ended up getting some ofna 1/8 buggy wheels and tires with ofna adapters, I gave up on finding a 2.2 inch wheel that would fit.

johnnymaxxima, do those use normal 1/8 buggy hubs?

I used my hubs from my X-Terminator which are 17mm I believe.
Here is a pic.
