Possible brushless setup (your thoughts)
 

A made a thread a couple days ago on what would be a good buggy to convert. i have decided on the Hyper 7 tq black. Now, as far as the setup goes... i found a $60 radio that has $25 receivers sold seperate. I would run the stock servo, rcm motor mount. I'd like to run a MMM esc, and a 80mm medusa on 6s zippy from hobby city. Looking for your thoughts on the setup... things to improve on, etc. Also, just to make sure; can the hyper 7 DL handle the 6s? i know it will be crazy, but hopefully it will keep me entertained! :yipi: Looking for your imput... Want to make sure i get this right the first time.

On a side note - i made $15 on easter, and $50 today for helping my grandma. I have to ride over to my grandpas to pick up $40 for my work over there too! That's over $100 saved so far... Plus i am going to sell my phone, and maybe a rc. the stock kit is only $300 minus what the nitro crap sells for. On my way! :party:

6s gets my vote. There is no such thing as to much power.

6s would be good as long as it is mated with with the right motor, and you go with a pack that is smaller than a 5000mah...probubly 3700-4300 due to weight...lok to keep the battery weight below 650 grams

As far as mated with the right motor.... how does the 80mm medusa sound? And that is a little less mah then I wanted, but i can always get another pack. you are talking about zippys right?

6s in a buggy is overkill. i run 4s in my truggy and can outpace nitro buggies.

Zippys are worth there weight, but if you have money to spend get an RCM pack or enerland based pack. and 80mm medusa is too big for a buggy. Try a 70 or 60. remember that the buggy will be about 8-9lbs when your done- Doesnt need THAT much to make it move how you want it. MMM and a 1512 or 2650 seems to be the hot ticket in Buggies

I agree that 4s is fine in a buggy. With 6s you run into problems fitting the larger lipos under the body, and the addl weight really throws off the balance. I run a 1600kv medusa 60mm in my hyper8, and plan to use fp 3200 5s lipos, as my 2170 6s setup just does not have enough runtime.

As far as equipment, a decent budget setup would be the hobbywing 80amp esc with a 2200kv 60mm medusa on some sort of 4s lipo, around 5000mah 20c+.

Better would be the cc mmm 2650 combo on 4s.

The budget setup could easily be done under 300 bucks for motor esc and lipo. You will spend 50-75 bucks more for the MMM setup.

if you go with a 6s setup choose a motor that will get you a max motor speed of 35k and this will give you a better run time than a 4s 2200/2260kv setup so you can afford to run a smaller pack. One advantage that the 6s setup has over the 4s is it will run cooler, if you live in a hot climate this will be an issue

He lives in orange county and once in awhile vacates by lake havasu. I use to live near lake havasu and its hot as hell in the summer. As for orange county, it can get quite hot there id imagine aswell.

I would go with 4s and a 60mm Medusa in a buggy, personally, a nice light weight setup that should work nicely for you.

... I wouldn't mind the thought of 4s, just don't want to get bored a month later and have to invest in new electronics.

And yes, although i do go to Lake havasu, it is for no more then a week at a time. I have had problems with temps on some of my cars in the past. especially if i am going to build up a battery collection to hopefully get longer runtimes, i wouldn't like to worry about heat.

can anyone confirm that the 80mm WILL NOT fit? I like the thought of $300 for batteries and motor/esc. What about running a HW esc with a medusa motor? or a mmm and medusa? So many options. i guess it depends on the budget mainly. Keep temps in mine as those are fairly important to me. I have seen buggies on youtube on 4s, they look pretty fast. Then again, i don't just want to keep up, i want to be long gone. :yes:

I like the hw esc, but i have heard of failures, and i don't want to ship it back to china... i really like the MMM esc but it is also more money. And i am undecided on if i should use medusa or the cc motor.

Going to look into it more later.. at school now :whistle:

i say, go for a hw 80a esc, medusa 60mm 3100kv motor with a 4s lipo. that'll make the motor spin at about 45k rpm and will leave any nitro in the dust.
