Change of plans...
First of all, i would like to say sorry to everyone that replied in my truggy and buggy thread... i have had a change of heart. i want to bring my Savage X up to flux specs. I want to run the 2200kv MMM, on 5s (6s later if i wish). I have decided that i really like the savage. I like how it handles, i like how it's uncontrollable, and I like how i can do anything with it. aside from racing. Right now i am looking at a roller. I figured i can use the flux mounts, and battery trays, so that will work out good. I also noticed the flux has new shocks, and only 4 of them. To compinsate, i was thinking of running the LST conversion sometime in the future. When, no one knows... The 4.1 engine i was running in the past is going up fleabay tomorrow hopefully. Along with fuel tank, and other components. I need to pick up a steel spur (gear tooth will be stock Flux, which i do not know). I also need a pinion gear (i am also going to use stock Flux). As far as the internal transmission goes, i know i will have to lock it in 1st gear, and get a metal gear for it i am pretty sure. Please correct me if i am wrong there. As far as tires go, my stock ones are going to be de-chromed (if that's a word) and dyed black. I already have chrome finish off. Please chip in with your $0.2, it will be much appreciated!!
On a side note, i saw mike at RCX Pamona today! Finally got to meet him and compliment him on his great work! |
Get hpi p/n 100905 for the tranny. It is the flux middle shaft and gear. All you need to lock your tranny in 1st, as the x and flux trannies are identical other than the middle shafts and gears. It cost me 12 bucks off ebay...
You can get the flux motor mounts complete for under 40 bucks, and the tvps around 25-30. I have not priced the battery boxes, but they can't be more than 40. Hpi uses a 20t pinion stock with a 44t spur? So if you plan to run 5s I would go with a 17-18t pinion. http://cgi.ebay.com/HPI-Idler-Gear-4...3286.m20.l1116 |

just convert to brushless the easy way like i am. get a KB l or xl (if you want overkill) and the kershaw motor mount. you will either have to modify the mount yourself or have the owner of kershaw designs make you a custom one like mine. a mystery 200a esc can be had for $50 shipped on fleabay and the motor is about $50. the xl motors supposedly have more power than the CC/NEU motors.
only about $100 for the whole power system and you don't have to get the flux parts. you can use the set screw in the tranny to make the shifting point too high to reach, thus locking it into 1st gear. |

the xl motors are good, but not even close to the capability or efficiency of the neu
|
Sorry but no way does a $50 KB motor put out more power than a CC/Neu! Your motor and esc are one place you don't want to skimp out. If you spend $100 on a motor and esc I can pretty much gaurantee that you will spend money replacing them as well! Save up if you have to and get something worth having.

The KB 45 xl motors is more powerful than the 1515 sized motors, but not as efficient. The main issues with the kb45 motors are the 6mm shaft, and 30mm wide bolt spacing with m4 threads. Basically you end up making your own motor mount, and either turning the shaft down to 5mm or scaring up some 6mm bore pinions.
Great motors for the price, but they are more suited to custom builds or boats. |
I really don't like the cound of a custom over-seas setup. As cheap as it may be, I only want to do this once. I certainly don't want to pay $20 to send the setup back to China. With that said, a MMM isn't that much more money. But it's a proven setup. No custom work either, which I like.

the mmm combo is cheaper now?
|
think it went down like $30. and you can get the Blur system on E-bay for cheaper then the mmm.
After cleaning my savage up, i am thinking more about a conversion. i am one step closer. The motor is now on E-bay! not going back now... |
