What to do with a rustler?

Hey guys I have an upgraded rustler VXL with most of the RPM goodies and some dirt hawg tires. I also have a spare MM laying around, what should I build?

E-Revonut 04.19.2009 02:23 PM

Throw some slash body mounts, body, bumpers, and tires on it.

lincpimp 04.19.2009 03:46 PM

Yeah, either a slash or sell it. 2wd is not really all that fun if it is overpowered.

You could pull the tranny and build a crawler...?

Trade it like i did

If I slash it, do I need a slash chassis, or will the rustler one work with the stock slash body mount holes?

Always Dreamin 05.07.2009 07:21 PM

It wont be a Slash without the raised CG. But if you just wanted to run the body, I'm sure you could find a way to make that work.

Trade it or sell it. I think the new VXL 16th Revo would be much more fun, and about the same size.

Using the stock chassis would make it like a SC10, much better for racing as well.

You can get Slash chassis rollers on Ebay for less than $30 and use your Rustler tranny, shocks, etc.

Always Dreamin 05.07.2009 08:32 PM

Would be really simple. But I don't think it would work well with that 3s I gave you... the body is like a parachute.

Using a slash body on a stock rustler chassis won't work, the wheelbase is too short. You could get another set of rear arms and put them up front, that'll give you some extra wheelbase. When I had my rustler I was working on my own extended chassis to run a slash body, never finished the battery mount though.

The extension itself is 20 or 22ga sheetmetal, the rollcage is steel brakeline welded to it and attaches to the front shocktower for protection and less flex. Your front body mount can be flipped for more height, attach the slash rear mount and go. I did do some testing and actually like the handling better than stock. BTW I've never driven a slash so I can't compare.

funny you should ask what should be done with a rustler... I just ran mine on 6s, with a MMM and the castle neu 2200kv motor, with 16/44 gearing. can someone say overkill?

eovnu87435ds 05.07.2009 08:59 PM

also, if you want something more raceworthy, I have an evader roller here that with some modifications can use the rustler tranny. the evader is pretty much a clone of the losi xxx-t. I can also include a mamba max(ran 5 times) and a never used mamba CM5700 motor

rawfuls 05.07.2009 09:05 PM

4600kV all the way.

5700 will make it wheelie like it only has two wheels, and that's the only way to run it.

I have my Evader as well, and the 4600 is more than enough

I need to pick up a steel spur:

and go from there.
