I was reading a RC magazine & they stated that it`s "We`re finding out that just like with their brushed friends you can cheat just as easy".Their was more to that statement but I was wondering/thinking can`t the motor variables(Rpm,voltage & ETC) be controlled by the ESC.Kinda like how in in real cars they can limit Speed & other variables.
I assuming this could be done via a software

I think it would have to be aftermarket firmware in the ESC to enable those extra controls. Meaning either the Mfg. did it for them or they have the equipment.

Actually I would like to retract that statement. An ESC cannot modify the kV rating of a BL motor, nor can it modify the input voltage to supply more power to the motor. Heli ESCs have a governor in them that allows the blades to maintain a set RPM. As far as limiting top end RPM in a car you can just use the EPA setting on your radio.

I wondering if performance in general can be controlled to lessen what this magazine claims as cheating by modifying the motor.It more than apparent that said magazine is bais towards brushless system & they seem poorly informed.

Thats what trinity is Doing with the COT program, making spec Bl Motors, esc and lipos, that are easy to inspect and repair.

I have seen people go as far as to internally bypass parts of a coil in a motor leaving a close to stock appearance while increasing speed.

If you have to cheat, what's the point? I mean, it wouldn't be a true win...

I guess some people simply have no integrity anymore...

To some people only thing that matters is who`s first at the end of the race.Also back in the day people paid up to $150 for a hand wound & raced tuned brushed motor (with multiple motors for a race season) & also factor in all the equipment you need to keep at that level.Personal I would liked close & competitive race where anyone has a chance to win,but I guess people have to feed that ego & only feel they did good if they lap everyone 3 times before the end of the race.

Sometimes people just lose sight that this is a hobby and the purpose is to have fun. They need to step back and see just how silly it is to cheat to win a race driving toy cars. Sheesh!

It's no fun to beat everyone else with something you got and they don't, People will leave if they don't have a chance and where will you be? no race. I used to race slotcars, the commercial type and before i'd modify something (bend the chassis, shim magnets or advance timing) I'd ask if it was legal in the class. Locally, most cheated and i was allowed to run my setups, but i never had secrets. If i found something, I'd tell anyone that wanted to try it. come the big races, the owner really had to watch the regular cheaters to make sure they were in spec to the rules. Its just a shame, people need to gain an advantage to feel good about themselves. If they want to eliminate cheating, I propose these rules;

1. no motor limit, self explanitary, run what you brung
2. plastic tires, most be hard plastic, any softening will get you excused from the track, no exceptions
3. if you are not having fun, find another hobby, nobody wants to hear you complain

I think those three rules will seperate the racers from the cheaters

I personally think this should be number 1, and in bold.

I remember back ~4 years ago, I was at the LHS track watching Wed night races (electric only). It was a new thing for me and I wanted to see if racing was something I'd want to do. I knew the Wed night electric races were more "informal" and seemed more fun. For me, it's not so much about winning, but about running with a group of people with similar interests. I knew my driving skills were (and still are) not so good, but it's to have fun.

Anyway, there was a heat going on where around 6 people were racing their 2WD 10th scale buggies. As you know, those things are not very durable. Well, there was an accident near the end of the straight - apparently, a new guy didn't know you aren't supposed to use reverse in a race - and the guy he hit started yelling obsceneties and stormed off to get his broken toy. Now, I can understand a more experienced racer being a bit miffed at this turn of events, but come on! To me, he was just throwing a tantrum. It's not like there was $500 at stake here! I remember thinking that this is one guy who has lost touch with what this was really about and that lesson has kinda stuck with me.

The only way to compete without the issue of cheating is purely mental. Just do long division in your head. No way to cheat on that, and no equipment to purchase. The smartest (or the one who is best at mental long division) wins.

Otherwise you are competing with a mixture of skill and equipment. And whenever equipment is part of the variable, money usually equals success. So at the end of the day you are just money racing... I do not compete for this reason, someone will always be able to out-spend me.

Mental games are much more fun anyways. I like drinking games, like presidents & a-holes... Fun cause I can drink more than most, and I am pretty good with card games... 3-man and capt d***head are fun too.

Why deal with rules, let have a run what you brung race. set the rules for the chassis and tires, let them have all the power they want, then let the fun unfold
