DX3R charger cheap + easy

Well I love my DX3R radio but I hate having to carry extra batteries or a charger for AA batteries. I looked around and didn't have any luck finding a charger to plug into the charging port on the radio. I did a little digging and found the cigarrete lighter adapter for the TRX power system, the charger setup for the rx pack on the nitro revo. The plug fit right into the radio. I used a multi meter to verify that contact was being made and figure out which wire was positive and which was negative. Cut the plug off and soldered up a deans connector to plug it into my hyperion charger, just set it for Nimh 4s and I use a 1-1.5amp charge rate. That keeps the batteries cool and happy and assures my batteries are charged between races.

Yup, that's what I did for my DX3r as well, except I just went to RadioShack and got the correct connector.

Would've went there tomorrow but since I don't have the truck or charger that that plug was for I figured it was a great use for it. Figured some others on here might have one too with no use for it anymore and now they can use them again. I'd love to do your mod to run 5AA batteries but haven't found any battery tabs for the case. Already had it apart to see what was involved.

Oh yeah, I would've done that same thing in your shoes. No sense buying something when you already have something else that works and is not being used anyway.

Soing the 5 cell mod is relatively easy, but that area is pretty tight and can be a pain to work in. I'm glad I did it now, but not sure if I'd do it again.

Yes its just a Jr connector.
