Buggy on 4s, Truggy on 5s, MT on 5s.
 

Here is my dillema... it has been tearing me up for the past 3 weeks. I cannot decide what i want to convert. Either a Hyper 7 tq black running a RCM mount, 4s zippy 5000 mah, and a MMM 2650. On the flip side, there is a truggy (mbx5t, losi 8ight-t 1.0, hyper st), on 5s with the MMM 2200. But on the other side, i am looking at a Savage that needs a wheelie bar and new shocks. That should be run on 6s, but my charger will only do 5s, so i might run it on that setup. with the 2200kv... As far as prices, the buggy is cheapest, Truggy is 2nd, mt is 3rd. The savage would need some parts before i can get ahold of a BL system. The truggy i like because it should still be able to climb what my Savage can, but handle better. and be easier to setup. The buggy on the other hand i can run on 4s, and it's super durable. On the other hand, it's not as capable in the rough stuff. the MT i like, but my charger, and the prices are making me a little weary... :whistle: Looking for your thoughts on the three setups. if i went buggy, i would buy a new Hyper 7 and sell nitro stuff. Truggy would be bought used. And the Savage i already own. So i either am going to sell it or convert it. depending on what i decide to do. i know in the end it's my choice, but I just cannot do it... i keep bouncing back and forth, and i don't get anywhere. I am sure that i will like either one. But i don't want to regret it later. After all, it will be my only rc. and I wont have an Xbox. :lol:

Possibly need some insight on your skill level... Do you want to make stuff, or would you want to buy everything off the shelf?

I want to build it (put it together) but i don't want custom work. i don't have a mill, and i know if i was to make something custom, i would mess it up. For example, i would like to take a truck, put in a mount, find a bolt in tray, and RUN IT!!!
For me, the fun part is the driving, not so uch the building.

myself I started with a MT(I have converted a few Revos) and I now have a 8t Truggy which is my fav...it all depends on your personality and how would you describe your running style?

Who says you have to run the Savage on 6S? You can run it on what S (>3S) you want provided you get the right motor. A medusa 80mm 1600kv or 2000kv would be great on 5S. Hard to go wrong @ $150. MMM is cheap too @$150. The CC 2200 is stil a hot motor on 5S if you aleady have that.

What batts do you have? In fact, other than the savvy, what parts do you have and what is your budget and what do you plan to do with it. More info would be helpful in making a recc, but ultimately you will just have to go w/ something and enjoy it.

I love my Savvy, and truggy too. Sav def gets more places and does things the truggy can't do, but the trug handles far better. Plus parts are cheap. Both are easy to work on.

i run a lot on street and grass. dirt whenever i find it. Basically At. my favorite is dirt, second is grass, third is street. the thing that gets me, is just how much ground clearance do i need for the offroading i do... Anyone know the Savage ground clearance in comparison to say a buggy?

I don't have to run it on 6s. i have seen the stock Flux do standstill backflips on only 4s. What do you mean "what other parts do you have besides the savage?" As in other cars? i have a rc18mt bl but that is going to be sold to buy whatever it is i get. I don't have any batts as it is now. And my charger is the limiting factor (5s limit). but when you think about it, what is good handling? I mean... honestly. If you're not racing, and you have a powerful setup, what exactly does the term "good-handling" mean? Does it make it funner? Or would a truck that is harder to control be funner? I mean, afterall you're just bashing right? Hmm... intersting concept. Let me know if there is anything else i can throw out there. To help you guys help me. :yes:

This should make it a bit easier

Buggies: Fast, relatively light, more realistic looks, but prone to shock tower damage.
Truggies: Easy to drive, forgiving, quite a bit bigger than the same scale buggy.
Mt's: A more dramatic truggy (more suspension movement, bodyroll, wheelies, etc.)

Personally I am a buggy guy, but i bash on pavement most of the time. On grass, my 2650 runs cooler geared the same, probably because I am not using the breaks as often.

Truggy gets my vote!

As stated above...it all depends on what you are going to use the MOST IMO. I love anything rc., so it would be hard for me to answer this question.

Thing is, i don't want to get a truggy if a buggy can do all of the same stuff. What exactly can a buggy NOT do?

It is a similar setup to the one i want to right. It looks like it can handle some rough stuff...or is it just me?

Buggies wont be quite as capable on the very rough off road terrain and bottom out easier on big jumps... smaller tires, less clearance... For all around bashing I would think a savage would be the most fun, truggy a close second. Savages can literally go anywhere, trails, mud, grass, dirt, road... and better than most truggies.

Still truggs are very good offroad and handle better than MTs in a racing sense, just dont expect it to "trail crawl/ride" as well as a MT.

Anyone know the averages ground clearance between all of them? Stock buggy, stock truggy, and stock savage? Looked with no luck...

A buggy has about 1 inch of ground clearance, a truggy may have 2inches. You can jack the suspensions up a bit, but that will affect the handling. That is why the flat chassis vehicles handle better, more weight it placed lower...
