Council to improve performance ....

3 Attachment(s)
My set up is:

MMM

Align xl600 1700kV

8s1p A123

kyosho ST-RR

I am very satisfied with the performance but I would like to go some more strong ....
I thought about putting a medusa 36-80-1600 or 2000 what do you think?

the align 1700 and the medusa (80 or 70) 1600 are to similar performance?

batteries (A123) resist to 36-80-2000?

How about a Neu 1515/1.5Y (1500kv). Should perform great in the same setup now and provide more power.
Otherwise, try a Neu 1521/1Y (1577kv). This is a bigger can and will have even more power than stated above.

The align motor has plenty of torque, but does spin up a bit slower than a 4 pole inrunner like a neu. I have a feeling that you would notice a fair difference if you went to a 7s2p a123 setup, and ran a 1515 2.5d. I have a feeling your 1p a123 batt is dropping quite a bit of voltage under load. Plus 8s a123 is a bit much for the MMM.

Are you running 8S on a MMM? O.o

8s a123 = 28.8v fully charged, 26.4v nominal. I can imagine the load he has on it is pulling the voltage down pretty hard... The voltage drop is most likely what he can feel.

Indeed, 7s A123 is the maximum allowed by the spec- if that esc were to diw, it would cost $$$ to replace out of warrenty.

I would say the medusa 36-1600-70mm would be plenty of motor, but like as has been said, you need a 6s2p or 7s2p setup to get the best power and performance out of the setup, A123s aint all that great in 1p configurations unless you are running a high voltage setup with a low kv motor- 10s and 1100kv for example..

I ran a 600xl on 5s lipo. It worked well but when I switched to a 70mm Medusa the improvement in torque and speed was HUGE. It's like Linc says, spin-up is noticeably slow in the Align motor - because it's designed to turn large rotor blades! When I switched again to a 1515 2.5d Neu, the power is about the same as the Medusa but with much lower motor temps.

Save the in-between step and go straight to the Neu!

Mike has good prices.

Steven at OSE had the smooth cans at good prices as well:

Good luck with shipping tho!
