The best shocks I have ever built!

I have built & rebuilt countless numbers of shocks in the 27 years I have been in the hobby, but I just rebuilt a set that were the easiest, smoothest, and most non-frustrating I have ever come across...GS Racing Storm RTR Shocks! They are by no means top-of-the-line shocks, but they are very good, and they are even nickel-plated! Their design, while similar to most 1/8 shocks, is perfect...extremely easy to disassemble, clean, reassemble, fill and bleed. Most of the time I have to bleed each shock at least twice to get the action perfect, but these bled perfectly the first time, with no leaks or overflow what-so-ever! The bladders seat into the 2-piece caps perfectly, are made of excellent silicone, and do their job better than any I have dealt with. The action is the smoothest of any shock I have ever built, there is absolutely zero rebound due to trapped air, and they look great as well! The only thing I would change about them is I would make them threaded...if GS Racing makes a shock just like this, except threaded, I will buy a set for everything I have that uses 1/8 shocks!

Anyway, I just wanted to relay my experience with them...thanks for listening.

any paragraph that starts with "27 yrs experience" is a worthwhile read to me. Thanks for sharing your findings.

Thanks man!

You know what, I just now read your user title, and it made me laugh...it made me laugh because a good friend of mine, who is also in a chair, has been kidding around about putting a pair of BL systems on one of his chairs (a really cool Quickie GPV and/or his Quickie XTR "I think"). He is a T12 Incomplete, and has been in a chair for 21 years (he's 34 now), and is into RC pretty big.

Anyway, just thought you might get a kick out of that.

Ha ha, I did! Send him to RCM that would be a great "x" project. 1000w is max power for wheelchairs right now. My e-maxx pulls more than that!

The first and only set of GS shocks I built leaked like crazy through the bleeder holes when they were being used. I know they were built correctly because I've built so many other 1/8 shocks which use bleeder holes.

Have you installed/used yours yet?

Chadworkz 05.17.2009 03:46 AM

Mine don't have any bleeder holes...so they can't leak from there, heh! I do have them installed, though, but I am still waiting on my MMM/2200kV combo to get here before I can run it.

Then I hope yours perform better than mine did! If yours came with springs, what color are they? Mine came with some really soft black ones that had lots of coils.

Chadworkz 05.17.2009 07:41 AM

My springs are a dark gray, kind of metalic like charcoal, with what looks like an ever so faint trace of metallic blue in them...the coils aren't very closely spaced (not many coils), and they are pretty stiff, too stiff for my liking, but that may change once I mount my ESC and batteries, though.
