My first 1/8 conversion - Losi 8ight-T
Hi Everyone on RC-Monster,
First of all, awsome forum with lots of great info!!! I'm new to the world of 1/8th Brushless conversion and just picked myself up a used Losi 8ight-T from ebay. I've been doing a lot of reading on the forum, but wanted to run a few things past you guys, with your wealth of practical knowledge. The only things I'm 100% sure on are the following: Truggy = Losi 8ight-T Motor Mount = RCM Battery = 5S1P FlightMax 5000mah 30C I was wanting to keep electronics cool and reliable, and get into the 40Mph mark. Love some motor/ESC suggestions that wont break the bank. I was thinking a 1600KV motor geared 15/54 should give me the speeds I'm after on 5S but all advice welcomed with open arms. thanks |
IMO just pick up a MMM 2200 combo and be done with it.

From what I've heard they have fixed all the issues. Every once in a while you will hear about someone frying one but it's like once every other month. If you have the money the Tekin RX8 systems are great.

OK guys, I've ordered my MMM 2200Kv combo. I'm going to run a NEU 5S 6500mah Lipo. I want speeds in the low 40's. What gearing would give me the coolest temps?? Whats the correlation between pinion/spur and temps when there are many gearing posabilities to reach low 40's?
cheers |
Check out Brian's speed calculator....http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/
Also...here is some general good info on brushless....http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...eed+calculator |
Has anyone ever had issues running the stock 48t spur, with the Losi battery tray, and having the spur rub through the rear battery strap??
its way too close for my liking. I'm thinking of moving it into the rear position, which requires me to drill a hole in the chassis for the from screw mount. |
Just get the Rcm battery tray.It will protect the pack better and allow you to adjuSt mounting position.

I can almost buy a 4s lipo from hobbycity for that price. |
Here's an update on my 8ight-T - getting through the build
http://i520.photobucket.com/albums/w...t/P1040434.jpg Body all painted and stickered up http://i520.photobucket.com/albums/w...t/P1040522.jpg I finally got to drive it today and all I can say is . . . .Oh my f*#king god!!!!!!! With a 5s1p Neu Lipo this thing is crazy powerful. I was running 14/48 and it would wheelie easily @ 40+ MPH . . .my poor wing got a belting I did some long speed runs through short, muddy grass and took temps when the battery hit LVC with a Raytek Laser temp gun: Motor = ~145 (not 100% sure where to measure - hotest part was near where the wires come out the can) ESC = ~100 Battery = ~ 100 What a machine . . .I'm absolutely stoked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you to everyone thats answered all my stupid questions throughout the build process. |
Nice looking truggy Primus. Great work on the body.
|
Ahhhhhh, its dead on the second run, I'm so gutted. I've been scraping money together for months to get this going and the ESC has burst into flames seond run :(
