Brushless set up for a new guy
I am a new E-Maxx owner. It is a stock set up running on 12 cells, though I would like to go to 14. I am looking for a simple brushless system. What is a good basic system? I am looking at the HV Maxx. Also what other modifications do I need to make? I have proline CVD's (came in a package deal with shocks and turn buckles). Is there other equipment I need to have? Thanks!

Go for a 9920 and a 8L Wanderer motor. You only have to run 12 cells with this system along with a receiver pack, if needed. The setup might cost around 300+ dollars. Modifications should go for a set of CVDs like MIPs. A strobe slipper kit to tolerate wear a bit longer than the stock slipper. Not alot of mods as a beginning.

For 12-14cells, look at a warrior 9920, and a wanderer 8XL (you will also need uBEC). This set-up will give you much better runtimes, and a lot more power than an HV-Maxx, plus temps will be very low. I will re-instate what captain harlock said, "Dont buy an HV-maxx." I would also say that the 8L is too hot a motor, go for the 8XL.

The 8xl will have more power than two hv maxx. I have tried and know.

I won't add to the advice the others have already posted(I agree with them!), but I would like to say one thing, Damon....Welcome to the forums! :)

Thanks for the input and the welcome!
I am pretty new at this, so two more basic questions, will the shifting servo still work with the 9920? And what is a uBEC? I really appreciate all your help! |
a ubec is an external bec device and the shifting servo should still work
|
first with brushless is almost pointless.

BEC= battery elimination circuit
UBEC= ultimate battery elimination circuit |
Wow! Thanks for all the great input!
I have a couple other new guy simple questions: Does the gear (pinion gear) off the titan mount directly on the Wanderer 8XL? Do I need any thing like a screw set, wires, etc for mounting the motor? The strobe slipper kit on this site said T-Maxx - will it work for the E-Maxx as well? I am hoping to have everything in hand when I order the motor. I live in Okinawa Japan, so it takes 1-2 weeks to get stuff here. It would drive me crazy having to wait for a screw set to get the motor mounted. |
no, the stock pinion wont fit because the xl motors use a 5mm pinion instead of the 1/8th inch as well as the strobe slipper uses mod 1 pitch gears not 32p.
no screws, wires, ect for mounting the motor. and yes, the slipper will work just fine. |
Hello guys,
I'm new here too and am looking for the same thing--my 1st brushless setup to go into my new electric Revo conversion. It's basically a stock Revo with all the Emaxx electronics (EVX, titans, etc.) & tranny. BTW, let me know if you think I'm hi-jacking this topic. My question is about the HV-MAXX. So I understand it's not the most powerful (by far). My needs are for bashing & racing. I have access to 3 dirt tracks in my area (lots of dirt around AZ :) and most of them are pretty technical, but all have 1 good straight. Is the 9920 a good option if racing is important? If yes, then what motor? I would like to get Lipos one day, but that'll have to wait until later. I might want a G2R chassis 1st after the brushless--I modified the stock Revo chassis. For bashing, I need something that's pretty powerful, but can handle the high Phoenix summer heat (110+ ambients during racing hours), and have fun in mowed grass fields. Thanks. -Rob |
how many cells? i would say the 9920 with a wanderer xl motor. which one depends on how many cells. the 9920/xl will run very cool usually so you should worry about it getting to hot with 110+ degree weather.
