zippy r lipos are they enough???

hi guys. i have a Losi 8B with rc-monster mount, RCPD battery tray and esc mount bit i have a quick question.
my setup is a medusa 36-60-2000kv motor, mamba monster esc and zippy-r lipos (along with some 5000mah 20C ftx lipos).
the only problem is the zippy-r lipos are huge (about 175mm long) and i have had to use a homemade battery mount to mount the 2 4s packs in parallel for 9000mah = alot of runtime
i think they are 21C/35C bursts but can anyone confirm this?
together for the pair they weigh about 900g so i would like to have to only use one and it would be easier to mount so will 21C continuous and 35C burst be enough for my setup?

thanks richard

So each pack is 4S 4500mah?
If that is correct (I am just asking for clarification) then you would be able to supply ~95 amps continuous and ~160 amps burst....
(Please correct me if I am wrong)

I have never run a MMM but I think that is on the lower end of what the MMM would like. But I think it would work.

Someone with MMM experience please confirm or deny my statements

yes, if you use one of those 4500 21C packs, you'll be able to supply 94,5A continuous. This will be ok of you gear a bit on the conservative side. I've heard 100A continuous is about the minimum for a MMM geared normal.

If you use two of those packs in parallel, you'll get 189A continuous, which is awesome!
the lipo's will never even get warm.

thanks for that guys, yes thats right 2 4s packs i guess i will stick to 2 in parallel then...

Sorry to jump in your thread here BL-revo, but after reading this thread last night I checked out the NEU batterys, they look good.

What sort of a charger can charge @ 5C. My hyperion clone only does 6AMP max??? So if I bought a 6500Mah lipo, to fully utilise 5C charging my charger needs to be able to charge 30+amps!!!!!!! cheers

BP-Revo 05.27.2009 09:45 PM

I don't know of a 30A capable charger. So all that really means is you just charge at the maximum current rating your charger is capable of and let it go form there. Either way it should be fast. Most good chargers can do 8-10 amps.

In a buggy it shouldn't be a problem to run that on a single pack. I would keep the gearing a bit lower but with gearing to run with nitros on a track you should be fine. 40+ MPH speed runs and you may run into problems with a single pack.

For what it's worth I run a 5s 4500mah 25C pack in a truggy without an issue. The extra voltage with conservative gearing for the track does help but a truggy is bigger, heavier, and has more rotating mass.

My 5s NeuEnergy 3900mAh 25c pack does fine in my Castle-Neu 2650kv motor in my 8ight geared for nearly 60 mph. It runs cool too. So IMO, there is no need to worry about gearing in your setup.

But 5s on the 2650 isn't highly recommended either... lol

Zippy Rhino packs work great as well. Both linc and myself have had great success with these.

BL-revo 05.29.2009 04:17 AM

yea but i have a truggy on the way now so i will be using them in parallel with that so i will have to in the buggy now
i may get another battery tray. does mike have a limit on how long they can be as my packs are about 180mm long:oh:

i've used the flightmax 3S 25C 5000k packs (in series to make 6S) in a 1521 1Y geared 45/24, and they barely got to 90 degrees in my 8ight. with that same gearing I've also used 10C 10,000 Maxamps packs with no problem. 20C 8000 maxamps packs are also fine. I'm pulling a ton of amps geared that high, but as long as i'm over 6000mah or atleast 25C at 5000k, i'm fine. i tried a 15C 5000k pack and it got a little soft. i think i might have been ok if i had been geared a good bit lower as i can use those same 15C packs on my flm-maxx geared 68/15 with no problem.

i really hope the flightmax packs are back in soon. they seem to be the best batteries i've used in a LONG time for my 1/8 applications. i may also try the elite 35C packs if the flightmax packs aren't back soon.
