I know its been asked before (for sale section)

Mike, it really would be cool if there would be a for sale/trade section. I know the problem is that it may interfere with your sales here at the monster. but it seems to work well for RCCrawler and there is so much stuff in the brushless community that well it be nice to be able to get it from a respectable website that has a rep. that and ebay is getting really annoying to deal with for selling things. I know on some sites they require you to buy a membership before you post sales. and it doesnt sound like a bad deal if the website here is making money to allow people to sell items. JMO I welcome any idea's

BrianG 06.03.2009 01:02 AM

From prior discussions with him, this is a touchy subject. It's not only the possible loss of sales, it's also web server traffic/storage/etc on something he doesn't benefit from. And then there's always the deal that goes sour and then you have flaming, etc. Pretty much more trouble than it's worth. And what about the people who sign up just to sell their stuff. These forums were intended as a means of first-level support for RCM products and all the other stuff detracts from that. Obviously, it as also become a hang out as well, but that's innocent enough.

However, I personally tend to agree with you somewhat. Maybe he could set something up where he gets a certain % of the sale item, but then again, he'd have to be the middle man somewhat, and he's probably busy enough, lol. And, what happens when the seller doesn't follow through? He'd have to refund his %. Too much trouble.

One thing I'd change though is to be able to post the price in the post (I never understood that rule), but then keep the rest of the transaction handled via PM only.

I assume you ask this so that you could maybe sell your awesome shells here? Since those aren't your typical "used" items and it is a pretty focused category, maybe you could work with him to have your stuff listed actually in the store, and work out the commission details.

team3six 06.03.2009 01:10 AM

Ohhh, Im not looking to sell my shells here. Im too busy as it is now. The real reason is I have a brushless build i did for my wife and honestly she doesnt drive it. Some forums are best set up for selling RC that are talked about in those forums and my build is actually meant to be sold here where it is appreciated.

On RCCrawler, they charge you $20.00 for a members star which gives you more capabilities, bigger avatar and the ability to sell your stuff as well as partisipate in vendor give aways. I think its actually a great idea and i know he doesnt want the headaches as I can appreciate it, but he does have control with his mods for that. Im not trying to press the idea. just saying that it could be a larger oppertunity for more intrest to this site. after all those of us on other sites do spread the word to come here anyways when it comes to brushless advice.

BrianG 06.03.2009 01:12 AM

K. I just figured you'd want to sell your premium stuff at a premium shop.

BrianG 06.03.2009 01:14 AM

Just curious, are the shells you post here requested by someone, or do you just make whatever catches your fancy and then sell it?

team3six 06.03.2009 01:17 AM

Most of the time they are requested. As you may know. I do like to show it off, but I also like to help those to learn. Its hard to post certain things without upsetting someone or stepping on toes.

team3six 06.03.2009 01:18 AM

Do you think anyone would mind me trying to sell an RC18T here. I ask because I assume you are a mod.

BrianG 06.03.2009 01:32 AM

Not at all. Just post the item in the General discussion forum, have "FS" in the title, and make a note saying to PM for price/more detail. A mod will close the thread (per the rules). There is a sticky in that forum which describes all the rules.

I do think the rccrawler model is the best one out for for sale forums. It would take a little to setup but actually does make the forum money and keeps the riffraff out. It seems to me that by looking on the feedback forums at rccrawler that 99.9% of sales go very well. I think the fact you have to front 20 bux a year to keep up that level of membership is a deterrent to most who would be shady type characters.

On the other hand you have RCTech which I think is the worst example of how to run a marketplace section or rcuniverse that has the most complicated for sale section.

On rccrawaler you only need to have 30 posts and have been a member for 30 days to view and use the f/s forum... You do not have to pay for the star if you meet those criteria. You still need a star to participate in the vendor giveaways.

Also keep in mind that a mod has to review any and all f/s ads and they are not posted until that happens.

Now if the rcm f/s section required 1000 posts and 1+ year of membership that would cut down on the BS...

I am not really worried about having a f/s forum, and Mike must not be either...

Rebelgium 06.03.2009 11:18 AM

I agree, there should atleast be a forum to sell your stuff on, or say you're looking to buy something.
And having to pay to be able to sell something doesn't sound very good to me.

I agree on the fact that there need to be some restrictions as to who can sell and who can't, but I wouldn't let it ride on the amount of posts someone has, that will lead to spamming and people posting useless replies everywhere...

I think a 60-days-since-registration minimum should do the trick.

What's_nitro? 06.03.2009 11:22 AM

It's not going to happen. Mike is wayy to busy with other things. You could say "the Mods will handle it", but I don't think they would like the extra work load being thrust upon them. Regardless of that, there is no doubt that it would interfere with Mike's business. That right there means NO.

Slowkrawl 06.03.2009 12:11 PM

This site is based around the business, unlike a place like rc crawler where it is mainly a forum. I'd say leave it the way it is.

team3six 06.03.2009 01:14 PM

Its all good guys. i was just asking is all. No problem.
