kyosho inferno gt conversion questions
hey guys,
i posted in some other threads but i figured i would just start a new thread as i know i will have a few questions throughout this build. so what is a good, fast setup that can be raced for the inferno gt2? i am wanting to run the neu 1512 2050kv on 5s 2600mah. is this too fast? i could also go to about a 1700kv with either the Tekin motor or the new Lektron motor. also, what is the best thing to do for the center diff/spur? is anyone running a 2 speed still? if so, how is this being done? if running a single speed what are people doing for the center diff? i will be using a Tekno conversion kit to do my conversion and building my own carbon chassis. if i go with single speed i can run a clutch like a want to and mechanical brakes. i am wondering if there is even a way to go 2 speed and have a clutch? it looks like the 2 speed adaptor set on RCM is a pinion gear and not actual clutch. does the the threaded LST2 clutchbell work for this type conversion? anyway, lots of questions so any input from the experts would be much appreciated. thanks all. |
inferno
i just tried a 1512 2200 on 5s however i couldnt get the neu close enough with a single speed diff. the chassis brace was stopping it from getting there as the fins are to big.
so i put a mamba monster 2200 on it and it worked fine until the motor for no reason let its magical smoke free. Sucks brandnew motor 5 minutes and 139 degrees. needless to say im waiting on the replacement now. it would seem the inferno gods dont want me running this car. |
If the lst clutch will fit on the tekno clutch adapter then you can use it with the 2 speed screw on pinions that Mike sells.
I would just get his 2 speed adapter and do away with the clutch. I ran an IGT clone with a small 1509 sized motor with the 2 speed and a modded 4-tec clutch bell. I had alot of issues with the clutch and ended up with a custom flywheels and al clutch shoes. Should have gone with a pinion adapter. I used mech brakes, and mixed them on the 3rd channel with the throttle channel. If you plan to run more than 40mph with the IGT get a larger motor than the 1512. It will run cooler. Not sure if your batts will keep up to more than 40 though. |

on road track racing in the inferno class...what else were you thinking? i do like a fast setup though. so i was set on the 1512 thinking that would be more than enough but after hearing i will see high temps from 2 people and speeds of only 40 then i have to go with a 1515 2200kv. i weighed my inferno and it weighs only 6.1 lb and i have a 8ight 2.0 that weighs 7.5 lb. i run the 2200kv on it with 5s 3850mah and it screams beyond control. this is why i thought the 1512 would be sufficient with a pound less weight on the inferno. so what about this? regular single speed, neu 1515 2200kv and 5s. i guess i could just gear it for different speeds but i think the thing will scream. didnt somebody say this setup was completely uncontrollable? |

I will be honest, a "fast" setup to run onroad will heat up really quick.... I had a IGT that did 70mph on 4S running a 3300kv motor and it was hot after 5 minutes AND that was just doing a few speed passes!!! The ONLY logical way to do it would be a HV setup to keep the amps down but that turns into money for batts......... |
You should be able to run the stock Kyosho 2-speed clutch bell on the 3 shoe Tekno adapter. The 1512 should be plenty with the 2-speed, but the lower kv motor will run cooler and still be fast, the on road cars have really tall gear ratios.

I have converted my IGT, i run 2200KV NEU 1515 1Y/F with a MMM on 6s. I mounted the batteries on the stone guards that sit on either side of the chassis. But if you are making your own chassis than you could make it a bit wider and mount them one on each side. I used the RC monster motor mount and i run a Kyosho center diff. A two speed set up is easy to do. Just keep the standard two speed with brake on the front, get the two speed pinion adapter that mike sells and the gears that will give you the speed you want and find another place to mount your brake servo. There is a thread by Joe Ford from castle that has done a conversion with pics and video of a two speed. I think it is in the Castle Creations section. It is really easy to convert one of these it took me about two hours
