Batteries and mAh

Just wondering how long a 3000 mAh 4s1p Lipo would last in an 8ight-t truggy with a CC Mamba Monster 2200kv combo just easy driving. no damage dealing laps around the track. just easy riding. Also what would a 15c battery do?

Unless thats a ~40c lipo, it wont work well. You need to supply the esc with atleast 100amps of continuous current, so you want to be running something like a 20c 5000mah lipo, or a 25c 4000mah lipo.

I just ran my 8ight-T at our track yesterday. I'm running a FliightPower 4s 4500mah 30C pack. I got 13minutes of track time before my low voltage cutoff kicked in.

Nice, thanks for the info. that brings me to this question. I picked up 2 of these batteries for my Slash and i am wondering if i can connect them together and make it a 4s pack some how, wouldnt that be 4s2p @ 3000mAh 30c? not sure on that stuff yet. anyway here they are i wanted to also know about low voltage cut offs. here are the batteries i paid $39.99 for both and they have been running my slash really well, best forty bucks i spent i think. I want to know if these would work in a truggy if i ran them together, and also wanted to know about the low voltage cut off on these packs, it says they can discharge to 0 volts. are there lipos that can do that? Also what about running 3s Lipos in my Truggy how would that work out and what size would i need if i did? any info you can give ill love ya for! thanks@!

PS what are some other budget places to buy lipos, places like hobbycity. I know ebay

EC POWER Hard-case 3000mAh 7.4V LIPO

Recommend for 1:10 , 1:8 RC Car / Truck

  • 1. LONG LIFE TIME( CAN CHARGE OVER 800 TIMES)
  • 2. PREVENT OVER USE
  • 3. PREVENT OVER CHARGE
  • 4. CAN USE IN COLD SITUATION (NOT AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE)
  • 5. MORE POWER AND DURABLE
  • 6. ALLOW DISCHARGE TO 0 V
  • 7. LESS WEIGHT (234g only)

ATTENTION!!
THE NEW STYLE LIPO HAS A SPECIAL CHECK POINT THAT IT CAN BE USED WHEN THE VOLTAGE LOWER THAN 3,
BUT PLEASE SWITCH OFF THE "LOW VOLTAGE CUT-OFF THRESHOLD" FUNCTION IN YOUR PROGRAM CARD (IF YOU HAVE) OR SWITCH THE PROTECTION TO 2.8V/CELL

When you parallel lipos, you double the mah, but the C rating and voltage remains the same. You would have 4s 6000mah 30c in your slash, which would be more than enough power. That said, avoid the temptation of dirt cheap ebay lipos, very rarely will you find anything good for the same price as a few pints at your local tavern.

They may run well in a 2wd slash running an S can motor, but they definately wont in a 4wd truggy/buggy running a XL sized motor, thats a much more demanding application.

No lipo can go to 0 volts- no lower than about 2.5-2.7v before damage and swelling will occur in 99% of cases.

Set your lvc for about 3.2-3.4v, depending on how good or bad the batts are (higher for bad).

3s in a truggy is only possible if you used a rather high kv motor such as around the ~3000kv region, and only if it was a smaller L can sized item. Your 2200kv motor will run best from 4s lipo.

The info with your ebay lipos is quite worrying, cant imagine how many noobs would buy them thinking they could completely discharge them, only for their truck to go up in flames. 800 cycles is also rubbish, more like 300-500 at best really is what I've seen- you wont get 1 cycle if you follow the advice they give you. And all batts suffer at low temperatures- they need to be gently warmed up to about 90-100*F before they deliver full power.

$40 could have been spent alot better on Hobbycity lipos, but there are lots of other good brands out there that are fairly cheap, check out my Truck links page and scroll down to the battery part:

SuicideNeil - "Set your lvc for about 3.2-3.4v, depending on how good or bad the batts are (higher for bad)"

Did you mean to say higher lvc for better packs?

suicideneil 06.19.2009 12:29 PM

Heh, I thought about that myself before typing it. With better packs, they will hold their voltage better, so a lower LVC is fine, where as weaker packs will droop alot lower, so a higher LVC is needed to preserve them.

If you look at it differently though, a higher LVC would protect your $$$ lipos, but then you are reducing your runtime more than you really need to (decent batts wont be harmed so easily?). Depends if you want to handle good batts with kid gloves, and abuse cheap lipos 'cos they're easy to replace....

He has a pair of 2s lipos Neil, so if he wanted 4s he could run them in series, for 4s 3000mah 15c. If he ran them in parallel he would have a 2s 6000 15c battery.

That is about half of what that truggy would need to run 4s.

4s setups with truggy size/weight wheels/tires need a good bit of amp capability to operate properly. I would say a 4s lipo capable of at least 150 amps cont would be necessary. So you are looking at a 5000mah 4s 30c lipo.

HC is the best bet for cheap lipos. The zippy line is about the best bet for cheap lipos, at least the specs are correct, unlike most other bargain lipo that are way over rated and puff easily.

Why did I read that he had a pair of 3s or 4s lipos? I must be loosing my marbles...
