Mamba Maxx in Slash - Help!!

Hey guys i have a few questions, first off would a MM in a Traxxas Slash be a good Idea? Second, can a stock slash hold a 7 cell 8.4v NIMH stick pack in its battery compartment and is the MM motor able to be installed onto the Slash's motor mount without any modifications or additional parts? Thanks!!

Yes to all Q's, use either the 4600kv or the 5700kv combo and you'll be happy.

Slight Problem.... I have a 6900kv laying around, would tht be ok? or should I use it on 7.4v?

the 4600kv will work better than the 5700km will as far as temps go.

edit: the 6900 will technically work, but you need to gear it as low as possible. there is a guy with the 7700kv in his slash at my LHS and he can only run for 5-8mins at a time because the motor runs hot. he usually stops it at 180F.

Install a 90T spur and the lowest pinion you can fit in there(I think a 13-14 will work) and watch your temps until you know what to expect .
It'll be OK, if it's still to hot adjust the ESC's timing and punch control to get the temps down more.

What kind of gearing do you suggest And what speeds should I expect?

A minimum of 40+ would be safe to say

Here, would these work good? They're both 48 pitch

It would be a decent start, get a 14T pinion also you may need it. If you need to gear lower than the 16t you'll have it rather than place another order and pay shipping a second time.

How about this

It has about the same gear ratio as what you suggested (14/90)

You can't use a 12T and no brass gears.
Go with the 14 & 16 T pinion and the 90T spur and your good to go.

All of the Castle Motors in the 36mm range (4600, 5700, 6900, 7700 etc) run too hot in the Slash IMO

A lot of people use the MM Esc and a Traxxas VXL Motor with a lot of success.

A agree. If you gear any CC motor low enough (if even possible) for acceptable heat levels, the top speed is too slow. Either a MM/VXL motor or a MM/Medusa 36-50-xxxx motor works great.

Are the vxl stock bullet connectors compatible with the MM's directly out of the box or do I have to change them to 4mm?

You'd have to change them to 4mm

That said I went the VXL speedy on my Slash, the training mode is great for kids, and Castle says not to adjust down your EPA's to tone down the ESC which is a bit dumb. It also looks like it'd withstand the elements a lot better, When I see the MMM in my Savage Flux, I'm scared to run anywhere near a puddle, it just looks a bit fragile!
