this has been a long and expensive project but we are finaling getting to the light at the end of the tunnel
i know you guys didnt come here to read, so here's some highend buggy porn:lol: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...f/DSCN1417.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...f/DSCN1414.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...f/DSCN1416.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...f/DSCN1413.jpg |
Purrrrty. Love the wheels. I think a custom sized RCM tray would top it off nicely.

How much weight have you saved from this 7075--> carbon fiber conversion ?

the matrix chassis is 216grams, stock chassis is 314grams the matrix front shock tower weighs in at 12grams stock is 24grams the matrix rear shock tower weighs in at 20grams stock is 38 grams the matrix steering ackermen Weighs in at 20 grams, stock is 38 grams so over all its 147grams lighter just from the carbon conversion when you add in the titanium turnbuckles, hinge pins, king pins, cermaic bearings and other lite weight parts it all starts to add up........er i mean down.........wait...........you know what i mean:lol: im not sure what the final weight will be but right now with the body on and the wires tossed it its 6.5lbs rtr |
you say the car ready to run is about 6.5lbs? i have weighed many losi 8 b cars all with 4s 5000 lipos and all are no frill race ready cars.
the lightest one i weighed was at 7.9 lbs and that was with the losi conversion, the lighter mamba max esc and a 60mm medusa motor. the other 5 or so i have weighed were about 8.1. you list the carbon parts reduce it by 147gms or a little over 5oz. where in the world are you reducing another 17oz from? i understand that tires and rims and some other parts can make a little difference, but the cars i weighed were running micro pin indoor type tires so they were on the lighter side. so from my experience, the cars i have weighed with your listed carbon parts substituted would still weigh about 7.6 lbs rtr. to make them about 6.5lbs they would need to be weighed without the 500 gm battery. please enlighten me as to how you come up with those numbers. |
I was just thinking the same thing. My Tekno 8B weighed in at 7lb 14oz with a 4s FP 5000 pack. I would love to cut the weight down to 6.5lbs or even 7lb even. Please enlighten me.

My 8ight now weighs about 7.25lb with a 4s 4100 mah pack and stock tires/wheels.
A few tips: Kyosho plastic vs. Steel spur: 20g less Removed front chassis brace (non-flex tuned chassis only): 14g less Did not use motor brace, diff bulk spacer in losi conversion: 17g less (Dremeled chassis for spur clearence instead) Got some fioroni drive axles from a-main hobbies: 20g less Got a the lunsford titanium hinge pin/turbuckles kit: 36g less Total: 107g of weight loss which is almost 1/4 lbs, but you can save even more just by getting the right tires, wheels, foam, battery, and shortening your wires, |
speedy....you are using a 4100 pack and that will save about 3oz. over what most 4s guys use to race with.
are you weighing your car with those onroad tires in your signature pic? you always have to pick your tires/inserts based on what works where you race. how much did you spend on those fancy hinge pins and axles? like i said, i have weighed about 6 losi 8b cars and all are race ready no bs cars. true none of them have ti hinge pins or super expensive lightened axles but still they weigh close to a pound more than some of the reports i get from a few other guys. and yes i have compared my digital fish scale to my local post offices scales more than a few times and it is within 10gms. |
Very nice indeed!!! Do you have any pics from under the frame?

but i will be nice and help you out alittle i am only useing a 380gram pack 35c 6cell pack 12gauge wire, no motor bullets the esc is lighter and fanless too:party: my caseless spektrum 3500 mini recever is only heat shrinked to save weight kyosho spurs are alot lighter than stock, the pinion is aluminum not hardened steal hotbodies aluminum suspension balls factor in the titanium parts ie shock mounts, hinge pinsking pins, turnbuckles axel pins, hub pins, screws, (im not sure what the weight diffrence is) Fioroni lightweight diff outputs, hex hubs, axels, and rear flexer all are alot lighter than stock. requard tuneing foam is 1/4 the weight of proline molded foams ceramic bearings are lighter than stock losi light weight diff out drives no external antena or switches all wires are shortened (every little bit adds up) the stock wing is one of the lightest on the market, so is the stock body the list goes on and on, i came up with the weights of the parts just like i got the weight of the buggy, i put it on my digital scale, i didnt weigh everything because im impatient and want to get it done the best part is there is still alittle more i can do to save weight, just depends on how much i want to spend |
Now I see why you said it cost a lot! There are a lot of hidden to the eye goodies you have. Your crazy bro! That thing belongs in a RC museum or on my desk at work.

6.5lb rtr is very attractively light. My 8ight-E 2.0 weights 3355g with a 2.6Ah6S pack and MMM combo.
