BL E-revo MMM gearing question
Hey guys, took my BL E-revo out yesterday, it ran like a dream. I had to take it out 3 different times because the motor got so hot (MMM 2200kv), to the point of where i almost burned myself touching the motor. The strange thing was that by batteries were very very cool. The fan on my MMM Esc went on twice. Does a hot motor and cool batteries mean under or overgeared?
Thanks! |
what are your gearing setup?and what about the timing, punch control??and also the airflow?:yes:
|
Oh yeah, I am running it on 18/68 gearing, no air flow to the motor, should I cut a hole in the body? As far as settings go, everything is factory defualt.
|
to depend of your outside temp...but open the front window will certainly help (cut)and lowered the timing to minimum.....
i run my e-revo basher with this gearing setup(18/68) and in 28 min of bashing at 87f outside my motor never pass 143f,esc 110,lipo 107f on 6 cell lipo timing lowest, punch at 60% and my body is open front and rear(front windshield and rear) just lowered the timing will help for sure:yes: |
Thanks!!!!!

dont forget your driving style:whistle::lol:
|
Does punch control affect motor temperature that much? I set it to 20%
|
a bit:yes:...lowest punch makes wheel spin more and increasse motor heat
|
Proper setup = success.
You are currently geared for 43mph, which is fine, but it seems the hot motor indicates you are undergeared, especially with 6s lipo- for ~40mph speeds 4s or 5s lipo is fine, 6s is for doing silly fast speed runs with much taller gearing around the 50-60mph area really (the stock truck isnt heavy enough to justify that much power being used for only 40mph IMO- use a ~1600kv motor for 6s otherwise ) Punch control reduces the 'punch' from a standstill and during acceleration- the higher you set it the more reduced the punch becomes. Setting it higher will also reduce the amount of current the motor draws to an extent, so it will run cooler I have found. Also used for reducing back flip tendancy. You should raise the timing to low to medium as this will improve the efficiency of 4 pole motors; low or lowest for 2 pole motors like feigaos is best. Also, change the throttle to 'forwards-brake- reverse with lockout' so that you dont fly into reverse after applying brakes for a few seconds. Start power is fine at low. Auto lipo is also fine, though 3.2-3.3v per cell is good to protect $$$ or crappy lipos. BUy an IR temp gun too- touching a hot motor is not a good (or healthy) way to check your temps- this is high-end stuff, you gotta have a well equiped kit bag  Motor = max of 180*F, ideally no more than about 140-160*F. Esc = max of 160*F, ideally no more than 120-140*F. Lipos = max of 120*F, ideally 100-110*F. Have fun  |
yea just get a temp gun. it took me almost a year to purchase one but i am so glad i did. you'll find it a GREAT tool. i use it to read temps non rc related as well.
the motor can feel so hot that it burns, but it can only be 120 degrees. |
WOW, I feel like a bag full of tools. I thought of the punch control setting as being opposite... It didn't matter tho, they are all set at 50%...
