Team Losi servo arm - do I hammer it on?
 

How much pressure does it take to get one of these things onto the servo, and should it go all the way onto the servo shaft??

I have a Tower Hobbies TS-170 servo (rebadged Hitec 5955) and Losi Hitec servo arm, but I almost need to use a hammer to get the thing on??

Servo horns are made for different brands of servos, some have different spline distances and pitches. Don't force the horn on- you'll ruin the horn or the servo's gear. Since it is a re badged 5955TG, a hitec horn should fit easily.

Thanks. Yeah I thought the Hitec horn should fit but its so damn hard to get on. The plastic ones that came with the Servo go on "relatively" easy, but are very hard to get off.

The hitec doesn't fit?

Without some hammering, I would say no. I have no idea how hard the TL servo arm's are to get on normally though.

The Team Losi JR horn that came with the 8ight seems to have been forced onto whatever servo it was on as well, you can see the servo spline has cut a "thread" shall we say, in the horn. They don't seem to fit on easily thats for sure. Thanks for your help

Yeah- some do and some don't. Check to see if the splines match. A little pressure to get it on, but too much and you can strip the splines.

When its snug I put it on as far as I can get it then screw the servo horn screw. The horn will go on and its a lot easier. This works best with larger hex screws like 2.5mm and possibly a 2mm screw.

Then you can strip the threads in the gear though- usually works but I've stripped them twice doing that. One on a 5625MG and a 645MG.

damn, thats the last thing I want (stripping threads) when this is the last piece of my 8ight-t project to get going :(

So all the Team Losi horns are really hard to get on?

I might just use the plastic horn until it snaps.

I've had the same brand horns go on easy and some are a little difficult ?
I installed a Losi brand Hard anodized horn that was a Mother F-er to get on a Hitek Robot servo but after it went on and off they were butter.
I also had problems here and there with Dynamite horns.

Mabey use some lube. I use shock oil for this and threading the antenna in the tube(his may rise some sexual jokes:lol:) Plastic shoulden't give you any trouble. Try that is lube dosen't work.

I've had a similar experience with a hitec 645MG with a hitec aluminum horn. Perhaps the machining required to get those teeth isn't as precise as say, a plastic mold? I have no idea how they make the aluminum ones actually. Press? Mold?
