G2R race truck

I'm almost finished with my G2R truck. This was originally going to be a project truck but I've decided to focus on this truck specifically for racing.
The truck utilizes the 2 speed automatic tmaxx forward only transmission with a modified emaxx motor mount. The only stock Revo parts left on this truck are the f/r diffs, rear center drive shaft, bulkheads, body posts and bumpers. I decided not to use the stock g2 chassis plate because I wanted a little additional protection for my Lipo batteries. I used the g2 plate as a template and bent the sides up of the modified plate for rigidity and battery protection. I am using a Lehner 1950/7 with a 9920 and 6s Lipo. I am currently working through an issue with the signal from the receiver to the esc due to the Lipo DPM, but I believe I'll have a resolution fairly soon. I'll mount a micro servo behind the motor for the brakes.

I am also working on a center diff for the tmaxx tranny. The center diff is a work in progress but is definetly do-able.

Here's some pics

I haven't had a chance to run the truck outside yet because it hasn't seemed to stopped raining in weeks. However, from what I've seen on the work bech, the lehner 1950 is a beast of a motor.

Yeah, i was wondering why on earth didn't he used the lower plate.. :D

You could use those common 6-7 cells kyosho batterieholders, and use a small plate of aluminum/carbon fibre on the bottem of it to protect the cells.

You will love an automatic 2 speed on BL (at least, i did on my savage)

Dafni 02.03.2006 08:25 AM

Another nice truck, Star. Yeah, the 1950 is an awesome motor. I'm sure you will love it.

Please tell me, are those regular offset rims?

Serum 02.03.2006 08:40 AM

My guess is, that those are the offset rimms of proline. i use them on my savage too. I love 'm... 23 mm hex.. light tires on it make it a very light wheel

starscream 02.03.2006 01:52 PM

Hey Serum, I know the lower plate isn't as nice looking as the g2r plate but its very light weight and functional. I had some clearance issues for the batts but I'll probably look at a carbon fiber solution in the near future.

Hey Daf, those are the crime fighter tires and Pro-Line Maxx Wheel Standard 23mm Yellow, Mike carries them. They come in different offset options. The wheels pictured are the standard offset.

I decided to stick with the Anderson Power Pole connectors. I am upgrading from the standard 30amp plugs to the 45amp plugs. The 30amp plugs are known to draw high amps but I want to make sure my Lehner gets enough juice. I also purchased a West Mountain Radio PWRCrimper so I will have solderless connections all around (Less resistance and no soldering) :017:

Take care

Nice truck Starscream. I'm planning a similar tranny for my G2R, only i'm going with a single speed.

Dafni 02.03.2006 04:23 PM

Hey, thanks starscream. Standard offset, then. The tires were obvious, and I figured standard maxx 23 wheels, just didn't knew about the offset.
I was wondering because I just bought a set of crimies, and have to decide if I glue them on offset rims or not. But I have only standard hexes, though. I think I will go with the standard offset this time.

crazyjr 02.03.2006 04:36 PM

Those are standard for the Maxx trucks. On a revo they are offset, not sure exactly but about an inch, maybe more

Dafni 02.03.2006 04:40 PM

Thanks. I know the PL tire guide, handy thing.

nice truck starscream me and one of my friends have been working on putting tmaxx tranny in our emaxx's let us know how you like it

starscream 02.04.2006 04:24 AM

Thanks Boss,
I ran the tmaxx tranny in my gmaxx a few years ago. In my opinion, unless you run a single speed, the automatic two speed is the only way to go. The revo tranny has a few more options for gear ratio's but unfortunately, it won't fit on the xbraces properly (My revo spur gear is too big but the tmaxx spur gear placement is just right) .

I got email back from BK about the 9920 esc. They said the input signal voltage for the esc is 3.8 volts. Since the FMA DPM output is only 3.3 volts it doesn't seem to work. FMA is sending me a 4 volt buffer to correct the problem. I should receive the buffer next week so I'll post the results when I can.

Oh and My Seahawks finally made it to the Super Bowl. I smell a victory Sunday. You heard it here from Starscream
Go HAWKS!!!

If at all possible, I will be racing this beast next Saturday against the nitros.

Here's some updated pics of the completed truck:

I am using 2 3s FMA BalancePro HV Lipo's with FMA DPM's. I should be getting a signal buffer in the mail soon to correct the problem with the DPM to esc signal loss.

I've tested the truck without the DPM's and the Lener 1950 has gobs and gobs of power. Its a little over the top but what the heck :017:

Very nice, what springs/oil are you using?

starscream 02.11.2006 08:45 PM

I am running 60w oil w/black springs on the rear and 45w oil w/gold springs on the front.

coolhandcountry 02.11.2006 09:35 PM

I got to run a lehner 1950 to starscream. I have a 8t hiamp. It is right potent little motor. I have not got to test it out fully yet. That is a clean machine you have built again.
