Happy Birthday Nikola Tesla!

Happy 153rd Birthday o great master of the electricity!

I salute you master of Really cool high voltage and grandfather of wireless energy transmittion!

I'm liking that avatar:whistle:

Nikola Tesla was a master of the universe, if only we had another Tesla in today's time. Imagine what would happen if you gave him a transistor.

I can't seem to find my Tesla Coil pics, but it looks almost identical to this one, just a tad less powerful than it though.

Pictures from Tesla Tech Research.

Just imagine if we could show him the world of electricity that he invented. There are countless number of inventions that belong to him but are widely discredited. Hell i wouldn't be on this computer right now if it wasn't for the invention of ac current (yes i know the computer runs on dc current but we all know dc currents couldn't make it to my house like ac currents can). The florescent light bulb, wireless electricity, Electrotherapy, and even tried to make a death ray

Yup, many inventions, many of the most important discoveries really... he is the man who "invented the 20th century".

NoControl, what are the specs on your coil? Transformer size? Caps? Spark gap?

Also, don't forget he invented radio, and NOT Marconi, he merely made the first transatlantic radio message is all... and the scientific community tried to discredit him every chance they had. AC Induction motor (widely the workhorse motor in industry). Even when the battle of AC/DC was going on, Edison and his mob electrocuted elephants and other animals to try and convince ppl AC current is dangerous.

My coil runs on twin 15,000/60mA neon transformers, 800kva IIRC. A Maxwell 30Kv, 0.003mF cap, and a spark gap made from two 1 1/2" brass water line fittings with vacuum sucking air through it (makes a big difference too).

He was electro-magnetic, completely kinetic, the wizard of the west.

In the words of Tesla that is. I'll post the vid in the music thread.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I'm going to buy one of your cars someday!!!

Oh yeah- thanks for inventing wireless communication and/or commutation! :mdr:

Neither I do all my TC's as SS the big one is a copy of Steve wards mini 4" dia 20" long 28awg ~1000turns, secondary feedback with a current transformer to keep frequency coupling close...Its in peices atm, been wanting to rebuild it, and redo the electronics I always manage to blow up the fets, looks like an arc welder goin off.

The other is from some dude in Chek http://skory.gylcomp.hu/tesla/mini_tesla2.html I managed to get it working untill I noticed my ground wire was too smal of awg and was heating up enough to turn the solid strand red hot, its another rebuild, the last project was another copy of Steve wards, but it was his DRSSTC .5 got all the electronics together and setup the test board couldn't get the propper Fres, either way all 3 coils are waiting on me to redesign the circuit boards and send em in to pcb123 to get pro made boards done up, I'm gonna try and making my base enclosures like DR. Spark does, completely out of plexi glass but thats alot of work and right now, im tired up with rc, and fixing the revo, and trying to get the tc5 ready for speed tests and just plain fun, plus work is a major hinderance.

Oh yea BTw if you wanna se alot of todays present telsas go to 4hv.org, thats were ALOT of the big guys talk electronics and mostly hv stuff, and by big guys I mean guys like, Steve Ward, Steve Connor, DR. Spark, Eastern Voltage Research labs, Tesla down under, Finn Hammer, and quiet a few others, I mean these are the guys who have VTTC, DRSSTC, SRSGTC, SRCTC, SGTC, SSTC, and coils from 1" dia upto 2' dia coils.

Nice! Yeah even my big neon transformers have a hard time surviving the high energy kick-back; that is why I have a couple of 40awg 500turn chokes with varnish, wound on plastic pipe, along with a couple 40Kv 0.0002uF caps before the chockes to take care of my transformers, they just don't seem to last... basically getting kicked in the balls.

My coil is in pieces right now too, making everything out of acrylic as well! Going to be beautiful! Acrylic lower level table, with acrylic upper table which the primary sits on, and the coil sits on acrylic legs on edge, along with ANOTHER acrylic table ontop of the coil, protecting it from the arcs from coming down a hitting it. Also has a ground loop around the perimeter.

These are pics of my coil sitting on it's lonesome. 24awg, 975 turns

EDIT: And yes! You need a heavy ground cable! I use 4awg welding cable and it still is warm after 5 mins of running.

Great thread.

Check that out, largest T Coil in the whole.... world, muhahaha, muhahahh, muahahahahahaha!

I wouldn't mind getting zapped by one of those to see if I can gain some of Tesla's knowledge .

zeropointbug 07.11.2009 01:42 PM

haha, you can come to my place and get zapped by mine? You have to turn down the power a bit, just so it's not as harsh. It is the most odd feeling I have ever felt, 1/2 of a million volts flowing through you. Max voltage is around 650,000volts and runs at ~500KHz.

We would need to crank the power to max then...I got zapped a few times that actually felt good and a couple of those times were a bit scary.
