Motors will not work under load.

I have a couple of brushed motors for some of my models that stop working when you put a load on them. They run fine with no load but as soon as you try to put the model on the ground and drive it with a load on the motor they quickly stop working. I’m just not too sure what is wrong internally with these motors, Thanks.

Most likely worn/dirty brushes

Is there a way to clean them?

You could try spraying them with motor cleaner (specific r/c motor stuff that is). If they are rebuildable, you could dismantle them, skim the comm so its nice and shinny like new, and replace the brushes.

For $5 you could get new 550 brushed motors though, just depends what your specifc project/needs are?

What kind of motors are these? Can you remove the brushes and take the whole thing apart, or these sealed can motors for toys and the like?

If you can take it apart use some scotchbrite on the com and bend the brushes in a little and you might be ok for a few more...

im sure the one's he is refering to are sealed cans, but all sealed can motors can be worked on

I have both sealed can and serviceable motors that have problems. The sealed can motor is a Titan 12 turn 550 motor that seams to run fine under no load and as soon as I put the model on the ground the motor stop working. The other motor I have is a Team Orion Pilot 15 turn that runs fine with no load again but as soon as I put the model on the ground it actually seizes up and will not even turn. I have to remove the brushes to free it up and then it spends freely and will run fine again with no load.

Meh, cant speak for the Orion motors, but the traxxas ones usually only lasty 30-50 runs before they crap put, so its not worth saving really- 550 motors are very cheap to replace, though 12 turns is a little faster than most normal ones you will find (in the 19-23 turn region).
