My CRT.5 Build Thread

Hey, I bought a Crt.5 used for a hundred bucks off RC Universe, and I will be converting it to electric. This should be a pretty smooth conversion, as I also bought a conversion kit off of RC-Monster user kona(thanks!)
Here are some pics:

I will take more pics once I actually get it lol

Cool deal. You will love it. I have only had mine for like a week or so and it is a blast to play with.

And this is the conversion kit I got!

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...5/DSC_6396.jpg

I will have it set up normally for the time being, but I am thinking of taking some measurments, having FLM or Mike make me come custom dogbones, and set it up like the hyper 9, where I move the diff all the way to the back of the chassis. I then should be able to put my MM, aveox motor, servo, and rx on one side, and then possibly fit a horizontally mounted novak tray on the other side, to give me a balanced chassis with a low COG. tell me what you think
EDIT: here is a pic to explain what I am envisioning(I borrowed a pic of MetalMan's chassis):

I think you will have tons of fun with the crt.5.

So i got my conversion kit from kona yesterday. and suprising, the kit matches the custom body on the crt.5! I put it all together, minus the top plate for the diff. I made my own smaller one, because I plan on keeping everything lower by mounting my electronics elsewhere. I made a custom Rx plate on the top plate of the front steering assembly, and another one that is on the servo mount, that the MM will sit on. here are pics!

Looks good. Should be a fun little truck.

why cant my electronics come back faster?!? This has been sitting as a roller on my desk, taunting me. Once everything comes back, I will have a little bit of testing to do before I buy some lipos for it. I have 2 motors that I want to try in it, and see how they compare against each other.
I have my aveox 36/15/1.5(3768Kv), which is 36mm x 50mm, and is the same quality as a neu motor. most equivalent to a 1509.
I want to try this on 3s with a 14t pinion.

I also got the last medusa 36-50-3300 in stock from medusa. I plan to try this out on 4s with a 12t pinion.

Both setups are spinning the motors a little under 50,000, and both will yield the same speed, so I am going to see which one performs better, and that will be the motor I keep in the crt.5, and will tell me which of these 2 lipos I should buy.

This 3s Lipo

This 4s Lipo

What are your opinions?

snellemin 07.30.2009 05:29 PM

babhahaha, the last 4s lipo is the one.

Foxracin 07.30.2009 05:29 PM

Id go with the last 4s lipo.

Arct1k 07.30.2009 05:53 PM

3s with medusa - 4s is for speed runs only...

Lets face it the way you break stuff I'd run 2s - That medusa runs perfect on 2s with a 18t pinion...

PS those batteries are too big... Max 4k 3s IMO or 5k 2s

Why do you say this?

eovnu87435ds 07.30.2009 09:41 PM

I wonder that too. is it because of the smaller car as compared to an 8th scale? I run 4s, 5000k in my hyper 7, and I am just making the buggy main at my track. to the point where i am rolling all the jumps on the last lap. Thats why I was looking at the larger packs. also, on a size factor, they all fit in my battery tray. so I know that wouldnt be a problem.

and I have become a much better drier since the last time I have broken anything. the last thing broken was a front shock on the rustler, when ben ran it over. it was fixed in 10 minutes, and anyways, the rustler is gone! the hyper hasnt seen the ER since before i got the new motor mount. and I got a brushed tc4 with drift wheels, running on 6 cells nimh for my gf to use, so she wont break my stuff... the worst she can do with the tc4 is put it into a storm drain.

Too heavy for truck - These things go better with a light battery unless you 1/10th it with mikes chassis...

Ryan uses a 2500 4s pack IIRC

I run with one of the "larger" packs and thats a 2s 5k and 3s 4k hardcases and thats with mike ext chassis

i havent seen the hyper finish an entire main.. and neither has my revo...

we never did time it to see how long it lasts.
