I'm knew to Brushless and have a question to ask

I'm thing about changing my E-maxx over to brushless and was wondering if this would be a good set up for it I'm not going to be doing any racing just backyard bashing and just having fun. But any way i wanted to know about this one Castle Creations 1/10 Mamba Max + 7700 kV

hardrustler 08.03.2009 12:30 PM

I forgot to mention that it's the older E-max 14.4v

Snipin_Willy 08.03.2009 12:42 PM

The 7700 CC motor was ment for lightweight speed cars. Not nearly enough of a motor to power an Emaxx. You should look into a motor that was designed for 1/8 scale, and something between 1600kv and 2200kv depending on what batteries you want to use.
Some people have used the MM controler in the Emaxx but it wasn't designed to push heavy RCs and it takes a big beating doing so. The Mamba Monster or Tekin RX8 are much better suited for monster trucks

You could also do the MMM2650 combo on 3s or 4s lipo. Or the MMM2200 combo on 4s lipo.

Otherwise you could pick up a MMM refurb for $100 and then look for a Feigao 8XL, 9XL and run 4s. Or use the MMM and a Medusa 36-60-2000 or 36-70-2000.

I think your best bet will be to pick up a MMM combo from RC-Monster.com!

hardrustler 08.03.2009 01:11 PM

I was think it might have been too small it looks like one of the 550 size motors thats on there now. I was going to run one or mybe two Turnigy 5000mAh 3S 20C

nitrostarter 08.03.2009 01:24 PM

If you want to run 1 3s, the MMM2650 would be a nice combo. I would gear it for 40mph and have fun there.

Otherwise I would up to 4s and run either MMM combos.

a friend of mine (against all my advice on what to do and what not to do for brushless setups) had an older e-maxx and he ran that thing with a velineon combo on 3s and it was PLENTY for bashing and his temps were (to my surprise) not that bad....the traxxas velineon motor is a small 550 3500kv motor so if you want to go the MM 4600kv motor route it can be done...just watch your temps....but for the price of the MM combos vs. the MMM combos (re-furbs) i would go with the MMM 2200kv combo on 4s

Just be prepared to spend a fair bit of $ on driveline upgrades, as the old emaxx is far from BL ready..

hardrustler 08.03.2009 04:36 PM

yea that was another thing i was think about so i i think in just going to get me a new ESC and go with the kershaw designs 700 now what is the difference in the 700 and the 700-HO

suicideneil 08.03.2009 04:43 PM

Ho is more powerful basically- same power as the ~900 motors, only in a 700 sized can.

KD does have alot of good stuff for brushed upgrades, but you may still need to go to 3905 spec knuckles, turnbuckles & driveshafts- a cheap mod thankfully.

hardrustler 08.03.2009 06:02 PM

would the evx2 16.8 volts be ok with kershaw designs 700 motors?

suicideneil 08.04.2009 10:32 AM

With one of them yes, but a pair of those monsters on one evx2 is too much to ask of the esc- they overheat and go pop. If you had a refurbished MMM ($100), it could easily handle a pair of them in brushed mode, and it would also mean you have the right esc for when/if you did eventually go BL.

hardrustler 08.04.2009 10:39 AM

where can i get me a used one from

suicideneil 08.04.2009 11:30 AM

Used vs refurbished are two different things remember:

Used ones can be picked up from ebay or the buy/sell/trade sections of various forums..

Its worth doing some reading around, there is tons of info about setting up MTs with different systems and upgrades.
