Spelling and Grammar!!

This is just a little venting thread.

I have seen so many people recently using horrible spelling and grammar it makes me sick. I know for some people english isn't their first language, and sometimes you make a mistake or two, but some things are inexcusable.

Some things I hate to see:

sux
ur
u
r
ERBE (this one irritates the heck out of me!!)
ie (when "y" should be used at the end of words)
i (not capitalizing it)
plz (another really bad one)
no (know)
ppl (people)
"y" in place of "i" (i.e. excytement)
Nue (Comes off to me as disrespectful; The guy's name is Steve Neu)

Don't forget your apostrophes! (It's in bold)

Use the correct form of "to"! It's to or too. Take your pick. Not 2.

Use the correct form "your"! Your shows onwnership. You're is a contraction for "you are".

Use the correct form of to be! (am, is, are) Practice

Use the correct form to there! Their represents ownership. They're is a contraction for "they are". There means "It's over there". This might be the thing that bothers me most..

Is it that people just don't care? Please, read your post before you post to make sure it makes sense and to make sure there aren't any horrible grammar errors in it. Go ahead and post your frustrations below, I would love to hear them.

I would like to add:

Edit your post if you find a mistake!

It is in my nature to be compulsive when it comes to stuff like this, but I am fortunate that I don't obsess over it. It seems as though I've gotten so used to seeing it that it doesn't affect me any more (as opposed to "effect") although deep down it does

Omg... WTF? I m teh l33t haxxorz.....

rawfuls 08.10.2009 03:02 AM

This also irritates me somewhat, but it's honestly kind of fun to correct people when they're wrong.

Just my opinion..

I like to use abbreviations sometimes, like ERBE, sometimes it will in fact get annoying, but would you really type out ERevo Brushless Edition twenty million times in a review? =/

Metallover 08.10.2009 03:09 AM

I hate it how the traxxas kids have to use that dang expression so much... "I'm gettin a ERBE this winter, shud I get maxamps are venom lipos??? Plz help plz!!!"

You could just say revo, e-revo, or brushless e-revo. Brushless edition sounds so dumb to me...

_paralyzed_ 08.10.2009 03:50 AM

there are idiots everywhere. i never capitalize stuff and have the occasional mispelled word. with all the dum dums my hack typing is better than most.

it bothers me too. you may as well learn to live with it, it gets worse as you grow older and learn more because you see more mistakes.

what is the difference between affect and effect?

ebonics is my biggest pet peeve. "mines"? "cut the light off"? wtf?

Do you not mean 'of there/they're/their' (you forgot the really big one, 'their.' This is the one that most people get wrong).

LOL

I know what you mean, but it's hard for me, and I think also other people to speak English well. I'm using babelfish.altavista.com so often, because my own English is worthless  But you have to understand that my first language isn't English, so it's hard for me, and I'm still learning it at school...

I too have my issues with post's that look like they were some kids text messaging. This forum is one of the best around (for RC) in regards to this, and as long as we keep the standard up, it should remain that way.

My other pet peeve is people posting in the wrong forums, just because it will get more traffic in some other area.

My favorite:

deffinitly

It's

D E F I N E T E L Y

One more time, slowly.

D E F I N E T E L Y

Spell checker >>FTW<< Haha

lincpimp 08.10.2009 10:09 AM

I just ignore posts/threads that have some idiot who cannot spell or convey his question correctly.

What annoys me most are the people who state "I'm new to brushless, so here are my 500 questions that could easily be answered by just reading the last few pages of the forum..."

Well, the don't quite say that, but you get the point...

Before I signed up to this forum I used the search button, and then I decided that reading the forum from the beginning would be a good idea. It took 6 months, but I did it! Not sure if I learned anything, but it was a good read. Lacked humor until Aug 2007 though....
