Wanting to go lipo and brushless, need advice.
 

I have a Team Assoc Rc10t stadium truck. It has s stock motor.

Can I get Lipos, ride with that for a bit, then upgrade to the brushless motor and speed control when I want later?

As far as lipos and brushless go I don't know much more than, I want it. :)

Can we start with the lipos and tell me what I should look into getting that will also be compatable with the motor I'll be doing in the future? Including chargers.

I don't want to spend a ton of money. The best bang for the buck is what I'm looking for. Not even sure which motor I will get but I'd probably like to keep the price range around $100-150 for a motor. Lipos it sounds like I need to spend about $250 for a battery and charger?

But right now I'm just looking for longer runs times and I want something that will work with my future plans.

Hi, I am wondering the same thing about running lipo's and brushed motors. As far as getting a brushless setup this is the right place to be. You can research the threads and get alot of helpful info. You can also contact Mike by using the "contact us" tab on the home page. He is very knowledgeable about brushless setup's and the "wanderer" brand motors he has are very good motors and at a good price. Also the "BK" controllers are great. Just shoot him an e-mail telling him what you want and he will fix you up. If you have questions when you are putting the brushless on your truck these guys on the forums know all about it. They have helped me many times and they are pretty nice to LOL :027: Good luck

what kind of speeds are you looking for? and yes, lipos are compatible with brushed systems.

You can run li-po's with brushed but the motor will burn out a little faster. For the li-po system, I heard good things about the Scorpion packs and charger. At Starluckrc.com you can get a brushless system.

I guess Im new to the lipo scene to and was interested in it. If I have the 9920 and 9L can i just get Lipo's and plug and play? I know I need to get a new charger and things but do I need to change my controller and motor? Is there special controillers and motors for lipo's? Thanks guys Makana

Does this Feigao 380C sound like a pretty good choice?

I also need some schooling on lipos. The lipos I have seen at the LHS have been credit card size, but fatter. Have been priced around $130 and I think where 7.2v. How many cells is that? 4? .. And if thats the case than the controller listed about says 12 cells I could run 3 of them packs?

School me on these lipos please or post a link to a thead that would help. thanks.

And yes I will be buying the motor and controller from Mike without this site I would not even know there was brushless or lipos.

And not to mention that Starluckrc has like three items in stock, two of which is that motor and controller! :rolleyes:

for instance a controller that can handle 20 cells is refering to nimh or nicad. so thats 1.2 volts nominal which is 24 volts. now lipo, are 3.7 volts nominal per cell which would let you run a max of 6s lipo to stay under the 24 volts. now on a st, since you would be pressed for space, i would only run a max of 3s (11.1volts) or preferable 2s (7.4 volts). s stands for series while p stands for parallel. so a 2s2p pack made of 4000mah cells would have 4 cells total, a voltage of 7.4 volts nominal, and 8000mah (if you dont understand just ask and i can help you out some more). a good starter pack is the orion 4200mah 2s pack. ask mike and im pretty sure he can get them or has them.
yes, the fegao 380c motors are a good choice along with a mgm 80 amp controller it will be pretty fast and reliable. i would go for the 380c 8t if your not look for blisteringly fast speeds. hte 8t on 2s lipo or possible 3s lipo should be plenty. if you have any more questions just ask.

What would you recommend for a 9L and 9920 for the Lipo. I am really new to lipo and am currently trying to read a little about it here on the forum. But as the the set up I have what would you recommend? I want speed but dont want to burn the motor or controller. When you give the recommendations can you give the web site to so i can check out the battereies and chargers. Thanks for the help. Ill try to read a little more about it. Grant

Which version do I want in the Feigao 380c?
380C-6L (4899kv)
380C-13T (3125kv)
380C-8T (4934kv)
380C-7T (5820kv)
380C-6T (6760kv)

That depends upon how many cells you will run. If you will only run 6 NiMh or 2s Lipo, then the Feigao 380C 6t will work well (for good speed). If you want a lot of torque with better runtime, the 6L is good. Each motor will run differently on a certain number of cells (can be seen from the kv), with the slowest motor (13t) running on 12 cells or 4s Lipo being the most efficient (thus the most powerful/torque-y).

I'm planing on running 2 lipos. And I think I would want the torque because this will be ran in the grass and on dirt tracks.

So the 6L sounds like the best bet for me? Will this be pretty fast, How will it compare to my stock Revo? What should I expect for run times? Sorry for all the questions but it helps.
