Getting into the 8th scale world
 

I'm getting tired with all my 10th scales, and my interests are changing. I'm really liking E-bikes. I want to get rid of $600 of 10th scale stuff and buy one 8th scale.

I would be bashing only. I want something really fast and durable for huge jumps. I was thining a buggy, mmm, 4-6s lipo.

Or maybe I'll want to go for a monster truck? A truggy? I want something durable and I heard the buggys are pretty good... Would that translate to truggies too? And a savage is pretty durable, but it won't be as fast as a buggy..

Let me know what your thoughs are. It's a pretty general thread, but I want some opinions. I'll probably run a MMM.

I had the same question a while back. I sold my converted revo because it was kinda difficult to work on and the diffs were weak. I wanted something monstertruck-ish (ground clearance, durability, etc), but with ease of repairs and simplicity. So, I opted for a truggy that I jacked up the suspension a little. I ended up getting an xray XT8 truggy, replaced the shocks with Jamming X2 shocks (longer and bigger bore), and removed the sway bars (has little benefit when the suspension is pretty stiff. I couldn't be happier now. It is very durable and easy to fix when things do break. WOrks very well for bashing, but still works good on a track when I'm just playing around (not actually in a race).

I'd say get a truggy best of both worlds. It has a little extra clearance over a buggy for bashing and they are extremely tough.

MTs are cool and have their place. A Savage Flux would suit you well but so would a truggy. You can bash them pretty well without breakage. It just depends on what you're going to do more - fast paced bashing and handling or huge jumps and large obstacles.

revo might be your truck then.. can be set up "sort of" like a truggy- low cg, flies well. and can take a beating.

I haven't had good luck with revos.. Particularly the diffs. Right now I'm mixed between a MT and a Truggy. Would a truggy be noticably faster then a MT?

Truggies are meant to go fast and be stable at speed. They can handle MORE speed than a MT. The actual speed depends on your setup.

I'm looking at the RX8 or the MMM. What could I get, over 50mph on 6s?

Yes over 50mph on 6s. You would have a lot of torque too.

Stock gearing on my Savage Flux with 6S using Badlands tires was 53.4mph across a low grass field. So yeah, I'd say 50mph is cake.

The savage flux is looking really good because it's the best deal, really. If I end up buying new. Figure 280 for a MMM and then figure 400 for a kit, that's a lot more then the flux.

I do like the truggy idea because I can use my 4s zippy without splitting it up between the two trays if the battery is in just one tray. If I can find a truggy roller for $200, then drop $280 on a MMM, the Truggy is the better deal. I would want to lock the center diff and I'd be set.

Are you guys sure the buggy isn't bash worthy? It would have the most speed and I already have a set of tires I could use on it...

Buggies are pure track machines. Sure, they'll do okay in bash mode, but you'll want the bigger tires, wider stance (stability), and ground clearance.

Check the forums at RCTech. There's a guy selling two brand new RX8s for $160 each over there!!! I can give you his email if you want, he still has both. Combine that with a used Neu or similar motor and you're all set. I would suggest a used MBX5T for a great basher.
