Deanodization
Hi. How can I tear away the blue colour out of any aluminum and also how can I make the aluminum piece gets shiny and dazzling? what are the things I need to use to make it happen?
|
Some use oven-cleaner, but I would suggest caustic soda (NaOH). Make an aqueous solution of NaOH and dip your parts for a few seconds. And then just polish the parts. I use this Scotch Brite stuff and some patience.
Be carefull with caustic soda! Avoid skin contact-wear gloves. Eye contact would be fatal!! |
I've used oven cleaner with great result.

Coca-Cola. :D

Bead blast, buffing wheel, polish.
By far the easiest method, EZ-Off has never worked for me |
LOL nick..
caustic soda is the way. within 2 seconds the colour is gone. Don't inhale the fumes. Your lungs wil thank your for that.. |
I can give you some tips if you want to anodize yourself as well..

Mmmm, an anodised Serum. :P
|
serum, could you elaborate on how to anodize?
|
Harlock..
i already did do it myself. (what else did you think... ) I made it silver. it is not hard anodizing. Anodizing can be dangerous, it must be done outside doors, precaution needs to be taken, under adult supervision, wear protective glasses and old clothes, have an emergency room standing by, predial 911 on your phone.. In other words; know what your doing, or don't do it. Needed for anodizing; -plastic tub, that can take some heat (never use a metal one to do the anodizing) -lead plate -dc power supply, 12 volts -H2SO4 (battery acid, as used in car lead batteries) -NaHCO3 (natriumbicarbonate, baking soda) (for sealing, not needed if you add a color) -demineralized water -a pan to do the shielding of the anodized part -protective clothes to anodize, you need the plastic tub filled with a 10-20 percent H2SO4 (anything within this range is okay) the remaining 80-90 percent is demineralized water. The water will get hot from mixing the H2SO4 with the water, and from putting energy in it with the power supply. the aluminum (to be anodized) is clean, and sanded with 400-600 grid sandpaper. (haven't tried polished aluminum yet) the aluminum part needs to be setup as the anode (+ pole) and the bath ,the lead plate, needs to be the cathode (- pole). rule of thumb is that you need 10000A per minute per square meter (10.76 square ft) (keep in mind; holes etc increase the surface) No copper or other materials than the lead and aluminum may touch the accid bath. (use an aluminum rod to connect the anode to the aluminum part, make sure there is a good connection between both.) After anodizing you can add a color to the aluminum or leave it silver. for leaving it silver, (this sealing procedure is needed) cook it in demineralized water with a 10g NaHCO3 per 1 liter. cook it for 30 minutes. if you want to add a color; pick up any normal cloth dye colors. place it in COLD (demineralized) water with the color added, if you put it in boiling water, the sealing will start before the color is on, which can make some weird spots. The ability of anodizing aluminum based on used material; -1000 Good -2000 Poor -3000 Good, nice yellow/brown color -5000 Excellent -6000 Excellent -7000 Poor/Bad |
Thanks for the info, but this is too much for me. And BTY, I only wanted to know how to DEanodize aluminum and what are the things I need to use in order to poolish it. Can I find oven cleaners in hardwear shops?
|
In that case, you can ignore this answer, it's for squee..
I use caustic soda to deanodize and Poll to do the polishing. Easy off oven cleaner is available on every corner.. |
I used this aluminum polish made for boats! Verry effective, best thign is that it watterproofs my chassiss too :) and my exhasut pipe.

I tryed caustic soda once, on a blue aluminum plate, it was absolutely amazing, id give that a try:)
