http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8abv...eature=related 14mph & 4 mile range using just a standard 18v cordless drill- I forsee much potential... http://dpxsystems.com/ |
Thats a trick little set up.

That is pretty cool although it looks a bit awkward with a drill hanging off the back end. Mine and metallover's look better...

Would be fun to hit the reverse switch on an unassuming rider:whistle:

Thinking it's an inefficient, bad system. First off, most drill batteries are crap. It looks almost like the 10s a123 pack they had, which would probably get them their top speed and range.
The brushed motors in most drills are inefficient. I would guess if it had a brushless motor with similar power, it would add 1-2 miles to the range. Not to mention the brushed would wear out very quickly pushing the motor so hard. Well, easy to bash a product I guess. It's a cool design I just hope no one buys it to figure out it isn't half of what they expected. |
Its not the drill or batteries that matter, since you supply them yourself; you could easily bolt a dirty great big outrunner and a 10s lipo pack on there, just have to improvise a motor mount & throttle controller. Its the fact its a bolt on drive unit, the design of which is very clever and could easily be reproduced in a much cheaper and tidier package ( IE: not with a cordless drill sticking out the back like a sore thumb). A 90* gear box and a drive sprocket is all it is really...
