I was seriously considering this buggy along with the others I was trying to decide from but elected to get a Hyper E9 instead.
Thats Super Dope cheap though, make a great basher buggy for low investement !

Looks like a nice kit, but how come you can't see it in the products section of the website? I can only see the Hyper 9e in the electric kits?

Hmmm, looks like an Ultra GTP, but with motor mount, battery box, and a wing, w/ offroad tires. The fact that you can just drop in your electrics makes it a sweet deal.

not bad, BUT, I had an ultra LX a few years back, and I replaced it with a Hyper 7. The H7 is FAR superior to the ultra car, especially in terms of durability, which is generally much more an issue with these crazy BL setups. I'd spend whatever was needed to get an H7 instead. Part out a nitro RTR if you have to.

Seconded. I work in a shop where the LX-1 nitro is the only buggy we sell. The tires come virtually unglued, the setscrews on the drive cups need red Locktite, and yes, the diffs are made of a chunk-happy metal that, if abused, will blow up.

Not to mention that platform is nearly ancient... LOL

Even when you could get this buggy as a nitro roller for $200 my eyes were rolling. Suppose it could make a decent street basher though.

i think ofna is on the right track though. they have the economical roller and then they have their hyper 9E which is the more competitive track racer.

sometimes when i do some wrenching at the lhs, i see the LX come in with the front diff stripped. i wonder if it's just a matter of going with a thicker center fluid so it's not all unloaded to the front or their just weak to begin with.

You gotta look at it from a marketing standpoint. There are a lot of people that will buy a vehicle to try the hobby, drive it 3 times, and then never use it again, or use it very little. This is the type of car that is aimed at them. It's cheap and straightforward. Allows them to test the waters without spending a bundle. Can't really compare it to a $600 race roller because they are a different class, made for different markets of people. Of course it will have less durability and performance, but for a casual user looking to try out the hobby I bet the LX-1e is a decent vehicle.

As I see it, Ofna is targeting the newbies into the BL 1/8th scale with this one. I think it will be a decent platform to start with, certainly not the best but a decent one.

Is the Ultra LX1 really that bad? I was looking to pick one up to get a friend into RCs again (he's been out of it for 15+yrs). I understand this isn't the best race buggy, but he would for the most part be bashing around and getting used to the new brushless technology and regaining his familiarity with handling RCs. But if it's just repairs waiting to happen, like the diffs, I'd rather not discourage him by sidelining him with wrenching rather than playing.
