Revo Hybrid Diff Assembly Instructions?
 

Anyone have the assembly instructions for the Hybrid Revo diffs?

Sorry to be thick, but I can't find what needs to be modified if you use these in the e-revo. Since the e-revo and revo share the housing for the diff part Traxxas 5330

I have read this discussion through twice (not to say I didn't just miss it)

The only thing I can tell is the coupler for the center drive needs to be replaced on the e-revo, right ?

The ERevo Diff housing needs to be modified in order for it to fit inside. You need to remove some of the housing, and if you remove too much, you'll make it super weak. So, you'll want to dremel away just the right amount.

Just sit the diff inside the casing, and find out where it's rubbing, then slowly dremel it away. I know some guys use some blue stuff that will mark the pressure points from the diff to the case, so you know where to dremel.

A blue sharpie can be used to color the inside of the case, where anything rubs it will clearly show where by removing the blue ink.

You don't need modify the alloy cases at all. In fact modifying them is a bad idea IMO. The RCM Hybrids are fine the way they are and don't need any mods. If your diffs are rubbing on the INSIDE of the alloy case then there is something wrong there.

It's the grey plastic E-Revo chassis that needs to be modified. There is a small tab of plastic that needs to be dremeled down a bit. It holds the stock diff case in place, but the Hybrid cases are bigger so some material needs to be removed.

Look on the page in the RCM store: "Slight chassis modification required for ERevo installation." I don't want anyone going and hacking up their RCM diff cases.

Right right right... Sorry I had my words backwards! And in a BAD WAY! I kept saying housing, caseing..etc... I meant you have to modify the Erevo BULKHEAD, not "diff casing/housing" Duh!! You def do not touch the Differential case, PERIOD!!!

Use a blue sharpie or something to color the inside the bulkhead, like Capt Frenulum said, so you know where to take some of the bulkhead away so that it fits. And he's right... just a little is needed. Too much and your bulkhead will be extremely thin and will break.

Hmm... I thought it still was the actual gray plastic E-Revo chassis that needed to be modded. I didn't see anything about modding the bulkheads. At least that's what the RCM store page says. Maybe you can leave the chassis as is and instead take a bit of material off of the bulkheads?

I haven't had a chance to test fit mine yet since I can never get them to assemble without binding. I almost got one ready to go, but the other one still binds pretty bad. I've tried everything and am at my wits end. Maybe I'll see what you guys are talking about with the bulks once I get to that point.

Jpop, did you modify the little plastic tab on the chassis at all?

My chassis has a bit of material taken off of it, so that the meaty part of the diff fits in there. But I believe that the bulkheads were also grinded on a bit too. I'm almost sure that when I tried to stick the diff inside a stock bulkhead, that it did not fit.

I know for sure that to fit Losi diff's inside the bulkhead, material has to come out of the bulkhead for them to fit. Plus, you need to use RCM's output cups.

Sounds like you can get away with modding the chassis, bulkhead, or some combination of modding a bit on each. I'll check for sure once I drop mine in, which will be soon hopefully.

Maybe someone can comment more on it. It would be nice if the instructions could come with a little addendum showing or explaining what RCM is saying we need to mod.

Thanks for all the responses, I think I got every one sideways and I am sorry. Since I don't yet have a Revo of any kind, I was thinking it (meaning the differential) only hit the diff housing and as several of you all point out the RCM page does specifically say that the "chassis" needs to be modified.

So the answer that their is a plastic piece that needs to be dremmelled a bit on the E-Revo's chassis makes sense to me now.

Thought I have to agree, I would like to see pics on that myself, especially since to get this set up it is another 200 dollars and change just for the diffs.

It is a bit pricey, but from what most others have to say it's worth every penny. I probably don't even drive enough to warrant the extra strength and durability, but I love working on my vehicles and can't just leave well enough alone!

Ok, got the lowdown. I tht that the RCM diff was this way, but it's not. Word from my buddy (who did my truck) is that trimming the bulkhead only applies to other 1/8 diffs. The RCM diff requires that you shave a little off the frame, where the fat part of the top of the diff case meets the chassis. But don't take off too much!
