Putting HPI axles into Rustler
Lately I have been breaking the stock axle stubs on my Rustler for some time now. I know it's probably mostly to blame from running a spool instead of the diff. I run a lot on concrete so I know I am putting a lot of stress when I turn. So I have been snapping the stub right at the pin that goes through the plastic U joint hub. The stock axle drive has a ton of slop in it, so I read up on installing HPI dogbones, drive cups and axles. I went to the LHS and they had a cheat cheet of the parts needed, so this is what I got.
2 72108 cup joint 1 A549 Axle stub 1 A544 6X86mm dogbones 1 set 86094 Shaft screws. My problem is that the A549 has about 1/16" of axial slop in and out. Is there a spacer or something you guys use besides shims? Thanks Jeff |
AAh, that list at Randy's is mine. Was my shortcut list to order parts quickly for the 9s A123 Rustler. Just use shims man.

Ya Dean said it was. I went ahead and measured and it's .108", that's a lot of shims (the are about .015" thick). So about 7 shims a side. I noticed that the bushings for the steering linkage seem to fit, but they interfere with the sheild of the bearing. The inner race on the Duratrax seem to have a thin inner race.
