SMC Lipo question?
 

Hey guys im looking for lipo's for a new project and came across these.

would these be a good purchase? i plan on racing and i will be running a 2200kv tork motor in an rc8t. what do you guys think? i will be buying two of them to have a spare charge for racing.

NO! they are having nothing but problems out of those packs and i believed have recalled all them (kinda like castle with the v1 and v2s) to replace them there are some Ive seen 12 of these packs puff locally......

Hyperion G3 VX 4s (14.8v) 5000mah 35/65c lipos in stock right here at rc-monster for only $152 and these are MUCH better packs than the SMC's.

damn thats not the answer i was looking for. i wanted hyperion but i found these for a great price. hopefully ill be taken care of by SMC if i have any issues. thanks for the heads up. appreciate it.

I have my doubts on smc stuff. I kinda look at companies, and if they cater too much towards 10th scale roar approved racing I stay away... Too much "brand name" crap there, and inflated ratings and prices to go along with it. Looking at the hyperion specs I would say that if I plan to buy new batteries those would be the ones to get. The rices are very fair, and pretty much everyone who uses them (that knows anything about lipos) says they perform very well. I may pick up a used pack or 2 and see how they do.

ya hyperions were my first choice. lots of flux guys were recommending me the SMC line. hopefully i don't have any issues. I will maybe get some new hyperions for the flux to try out, although i got cheap zippys (that everyone said would suck, lol) that are working great, knock on wood.

if you buy those packs you linked you shouldnt even run them but send them straight back to SMC for the exchange for the newer version of those packs which is a "50c" which is a BS rating but they say they are better than those "40c" which were easily outperformed by enerland 25c packs at out track..... SMC is becoming like maxamps as far as misleading ratings go on their new packs......

wow i wish i would have asked around prior to taking the plunge. i always heard that smc was a great name. i talked to bryan already and he admitted the 40c having issues but also said if i do he will take care of it.

Trouble with savage Flux guys is that they are mainly noobs who've just spent ~$600 on an RTR BL MT; no prior experience usually of how to care for these large scale, heavy MTs and 1/8 BL systems, and no realy knowledge of suitable lipos. I've seen the rather small SMCs recommended by HPI themselves since they fit nicely, and are a well known 'American' brand... its scary stuff.

If you went over to HongKong or South Korea maybe, Im sure you'd see the hobbycity lipos being promoted for use in all manner of RCs.... :neutral:

You watch your mouth when you talk about flux owners! lol, j/k. I will agree, lots of newbs who have too much money and no experience. Just like any other rc though I guess. It's easier said than done I guess, but go with batteries that will give you peace of mind. I have thought several times about ordering some turnigy lipo's, but my truck doesn't normally last long enough to make it one charge anyways lol. I run TP's and to be honest I have nothing to compare them too, however I know they are good packs from the research I did before buying them.
