BL input needed

Hi
Me and a friend of mine are working on doing a BL savage kit, if we come up with a good setup it will be offered to the rc public, most might know my friend as Twisted-Toys. He is trying to put together a kit with his extended tvps or probaly without tvps I'm sure but since he is doing all the fab work I am doing the research part for him. I have read several threads on here so far and got a few things answered but still have some questions I need clarification on.
First- if you stick with the stock tranny and want to use the mechanical brake what all is involved? I read about this mystery "shaft" but seems it can't be bought or find any pics of it. Or is it better to use the esc brakes? I was told you can fry the esc doing this cause you have to use a Y harness?
Second- Is their anything that would be better for a center tranny? THe mad force is kool but parts are kinda hard to come by. Also what pinions are you using with the stock savage spur? I have seen "mod 1" mentioned but I have no clue what that means.
Third- with the stock tranny what is the final gear ratio with the recommended setup?
Thats about it for for the moment, thanks for any input and sorry for any repeat questions in advance but for the quality stuff Casey can produce it should be worth the time for us that want a nice kit and can't fab stuff on our own. :027:

1- if you stick with the stock tranny there isnt much to it. just leave the stock throttle/brake servo for the braking. the shaft i think your talking about lockes it into first gear. i would recommend just locking it in second with some epoxy like poconomaxx did. and yes, a y-harness is required with the mechanical brakes.
2-mod1 is just a metric pitch. examples: 32p, 64p, ect. mod 1 is the biggest and strongest. if you are familiar with 1/8th buggys/truggys or the revo, they all use mod1 pitch gears. i wouldnt use the mad force stuff. the easiest and best thing i think is a center diff. its light and stronger as well as will improve handling.
3-not sure about the ratio but it should be on the forums somewhere.

Thanks for the reply!
What other center tranny are you reffering to?

i would use a center diff not tranny. it would take a little fab work but is worth it. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...7/DSC01249.jpg

Got pictures of the work in progress?

Got a couple, he got a mount made so far. He is trying to find the savage gear ratio, I'm not for sure how to read your charts so maybe its in there?

Looks good so far, bytheway.

If you use some intelligence, you can read the gearing ratio for both speeds from the calculator.

2nd speed; spur/pinion, 39/23, 29/32, 43/13
1st speed; spur/pinion, 44/18, 29/32, 43/13

Savage03 02.22.2006 01:31 PM

Yea I collected those the other night after reading several threads, thought I might need to reffer to those at some time.

lol I don't any intelligence and I failed math :(

Serum 02.22.2006 02:10 PM

The ratio's are in my last post.

Why do you need this bytheway?
