2010 Kia Forte Koup

Have you guys seen this thing yet? Ive been reading up on it and the more I read the better its sounding. I would like to take a lease on it in the next few years when the price really drops "like all kia's." Here are some specs on it...

Starts with a twin screw turbocharged version of the 2.0 liter Theta II four cylinder engine. With direct injection, the motor allegedly puts out an 289 lb-ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm and 290 horsepower (220 kW). The production version features both 2.0L and 2.4L four-cylinder engines, and comes standard with a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic. Optional in the top trim level is a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. [3]
And the best thing of all. "ITS AWD!"

If only it weren't a KIA...But I have to admit, that's a very stylish look auto.

Kia has a base model and lower sports model out with either a N/A 2.0l and a N/A 2.4l engine. 2.0- 145ish hp 2.4- 175ish hp.

Looks slow and obese and ugly and undesirable from the pictures. My 92 pickup looks faster than that thing. In addition, my truck would make that little 4 banger sound like.. Crap. Nothin like an American v8 with rusted out cats and a glasspack. Except diesels.

But it sounds pretty fast.

i wouldnt go as far to bash it yet...looks interesting enough. Really liking the AWD. but like said above, im a little concerned about the weight.

and dont get me wrong..i love american v8's.....but sound aint performance:whistle:

The problem with a lease and low resale value is that a lease payment is based part in parcel of what the resale value of a car will be at the end of the lease term. A lease is only a good deal if a car has a good resale value and you can get good mileage terms. One must remember also that the sale price also affects a lease and should still be negotiated. Many go into a lease thinking they have to take sticker which is not true. If a given cars resale value at the end of 3 years is 15k and guy a gets a sticker price lease of 28k and guy b gets the lease for a negotiated value of 26k guy b will have a lower lease payment just like a standard car payment.

Remember that with a lease you are paying the estimated depreciation value over the lease term with interest. Leasing can be a good deal or bad deal just like any car deal.

Me personally I would go through a leasing company like enterprise (yes they do leasing as well as rentals) because they negotiate better pricing and mileage deals than typical manufacturer leases give you.

Doesn't look to bad to me. The only thing that concerns me about turbo models is longevity. More parts = more things to go wrong. Is this Kia's first turbo model? I hate paying lots of cash to be a beta tester .

The AWD sure would be nice, and the turbo would make getting up to speed handy. I wonder if the handling matches the power though. Would suck to have that kind of power if you can only go in a straight line to maintain control.

Is it turboed or supercharged? "Twin screw" usually stands for a whipple or eaton supercharger. With those torque number that low of rpm make me think its supercharged also. Unless it got 2 small turboes.

What I was thinking too, but I don't see a super in that pic, nor does it look like its got a turbo manifold either. In fact, on Kia's website they don't even mention one for over 170hp. I can't imagine an OEM ever putting 2 turbos on a 4cyl. That amt of boost in a 2L to get that TQ @2000rpm, it has to be a super.

Those are the concept car specs. Nice looking car, would be great to have AWD.

Powered by a commanding 2.0-liter Theta II turbocharged engine producing 290 horsepower paired with a GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) twin scroll turbocharger for greater power and efficiency, the KOUP delivers astonishing torque of 289 lb-ft at a low 2,000 rpm sustained to 4,000 rpm
Can't imagine it would make that into production like that. Complicated and expensive. That car would be helluva lot more than $17K.

ClodMaxx 10.13.2009 09:33 AM

seems the less expensive foreign companies are finding new niches that the american companies aren't. well, american companies have these cars - but not at this price point.

hyundai's genesis coupe is a great performer - 300+ horses for $25k? but.... it doesn't handle as well as some of the more experienced cars in it's class. but they'll learn, tweak, and it'll get there. :)

Takedown 10.13.2009 09:42 AM

Yea this is a concept model but it looks as if kia will come threw on it. Only the base non-turbo models are out. And yes I was thinking the same thing when they mentioned "twin screw" and having that many ft-lbs of torque at low rpms would lead me to believe its twin super charged aswell. Either way it looks interesting...

FG101C 10.13.2009 09:54 AM

Those features, and AWD, under $25k. That would be my next car. Although I have heard horror stories about KIA's service departments.
