Novak HV 6.5-Issue help needed!

Hey guys, Im trying to run my HV 6.5 on 4S lipo. I brought it off a mate 2nd hand, and its only been used few times-I was there too.. in a deal for a Novak Converted RC8. With either my Hyperion 5500 35c lipo or Flightpoer 5000 25c lipo and tried 2 different rx's I have same issue.

Right, It will work fine for about 2 mins, then all of a sudden it would either stop, or steering will only do like 50% or travel.. and not go.. Until I let off everything for a few secs then be fine.. then maybe happen again 30 secs later.. I have no idea what the issue could be, someone has mentioned to get a UBEC and run that. As it seems like a voltage drop issue-Running a Savox 1258 servo. But, I have no idea.. anyone else have same issue or how to fix it. And seen someone mention run a RX Pack too-Which i dont really want.. please need help asap. I want it running fine for our next club meet-To have a laugh.. and run my 809 properly.. cheers! I hope its simple as running a UBEC.. but doubt it..
Another thing, I tried wiring it like it says for 1 pack.. and nothing happens only esc fan works with seperate rx pack. So put it back to how it was.. which works but has the stopping issue-PLEASE HELP!

Because I am not part of Novak's technical support group, I suggest that you email tech@teamnovak.com with your question. Before emailing, take a moment to review the instructions originally included with your Novak Item:

Please make your initial email as detailed as possible. Include:

~ warranty claim?
~ speed control (brand/model)
~ motor (brand/wind)
~ rotor (old/new)
~ connectors used
~ servo (brand/model)
~ radio system (receiver/transmitter)
~ vehicle & gearing
~ battery, brand (c rating/capacity)
~ any external modules (BEC/brand, Glitch Buster)
~ other important info: water damage, corrosive chemical sprays, excess heat, etc

The more information you provide in your first email, the more quickly tech support can offer you assistance.

What are you running it in. I race an Erevo offroad and have had lots of heat issues. This info may not help you but...

The 6.5 will shut down on thermal overload at 180 degrees F. If this should turn out to be your problem, check out my "It's all so hot " thread. Lots of good information there for anyone having overheating issues.

Hmm.

If you are using a single 4s lipo with the normal dual battery leads, are you also using a jumper plug connected to the un-used input? Heres how you should have it wired up:

Just pretend its a hvmaxx esc with one motor.

Otherwise, how do you have it wired up normally? I wired my old hvmaxx esc up to use a single 4s lipo back in the day, and it worked fine; I can only imagine something isnt wired correctly. If this is a newer hvmaxx pro (black heatsinks), then check the esc's LVC setting too.

Cant say it should be a BEC issue, even on 4s lipo the internal one only gets a bit warmer than normal- unless the servo you have is some un-Godly digital thing that eats up the amps?..

Ok, yea I dont have it with me.. but mine is very similar to that.. something like this:http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...wiringdsda.jpg

But Its like that, but maybe the otherway round.. sorry its not great
That is the way I got it.. that works but will do the stoping. I tried it the single way-As far as im aware 100% correct and esc wouldnt go on.
Its in a RC8 Conversion cheers

Guys

Bleh, trouble with my diagram is it isnt 100% accurate in terms of where the wires come from and go to on the battery wire wire. However, if your setup looks like this *see attached picture*, then that is correct and it should work fine.

Q. how did your friend have the esc wired up when he was using it? Im gonna assume he was using both battery input leads with a pair of 2s lipos or pair of 6/7 cell nimhs? If it worked alright then without any external BEC or other mods, then either the internal BEC has become damaged, or its not liking being used on 4s lipo with the suggested wiring setup. Beyond that, Im thinking you may have to send it in for non-warrenty repair if the BEC is acting up- making it work properly with an EXternal one isnt as easy as it is with an esc with only one set of battery leads ( I cooked a bec doing that once, then discovered the internal one was fine with a single 4s pack anyway, go figure  )...

jamiek695 10.19.2009 06:38 PM

Yea, Im 99.99% sure I tried it like that.. the esc fan came on but the ESC didnt.. He only ran it on a bench to make sure it worked.. so it was fine, as no load was put on it.. And, Its wired think how I said above. I tried it like the one for single packs but esc didnt work.. So Im very confussed and tbh getting very frustrated.. and pain as I dont have it here.. and probally wont be back home till weekend after next to fiddle with it.. which is my 1st meeting I was going to use it.. but its unlikely.. I can tbh Unless I can fix it.. or something

Your experiencing the exact same issues my brother in law had (has) with his HV-Pro. It took sending it back three times for fixin' and still had the issue until we added the seperate reciever pack (he's running a Hi-Tech 5955 servo, so it was pulling a lot of juice). After we solved that, it went straight into premature LVC kick in problems.

I have forwarded a link to this thread to Bob. I am assuming that you have not contacted Novak Tech support?

Is that for me? If so, not on the latest issue. I actually worked with Bob the last time it got sent in for the BEC issue, I wanted to make sure the communication about the problem was accurate (my brother in law isn't very technically inclined, and doesnt have the experience with these to be able to accuratly define the issues).
He (we) decided the best thing to do with it was to put it up for sale and go with something different. This was his first brushless system, and in a year and a half of owning it, he's only gotten about a half dozen full runs out of it - and almost all of those were on Nimh packs. So for obvious reasons, he's pretty dissappointed with it right now - especially when we put my spare HV-4400 in it and it ran great (configured the same way, with the exception of the external LVC).

No, for the OP poster. Sorry....

Is the new novaks able to do 4s thru the internal BEC?

suicideneil 11.21.2009 12:55 PM

Technically the old ones could; I happily used a single 4s lipo with my old original hv4400 setup, just had to rewire the esc to use a single battery rather than the stock dual battery input lead setup. Runs warmer than normal, but it worked just fine...

Ditto that. My old 4400 works great on single 4S. The new one I've tried to use - not so much.....
