another one bites the dust....
i'm speechless. i was out with my gorillamaxx and ran for about 3 minutes just back and forth on my street when i lose all power. it rolls to a stop then all of the sudden, it went up in smoke. to make matters worse, i unhook everything and go inside to see if my batteries are ok, and one the cells in my most expensive pack is dead. AAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
can anyone shed some light on this? this is about my 5-6 return. drivetrain is free and spins like a champ setup: gorillamaxx G4 gearing: 68/19 batteries 10,000mah maxamps 3S in series to make 6S esc. monster mamba motor castle/neu 2200 :grrrrrr: :grrrrrr: :grrrrrr: did i say AAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!??? ??? ok...now i feel better. off to send it in. |

IDK know if that caused it, but it wasn't helping. |

but even at 10C shouldn't they have been good for well over 100amps at 10,000mah.
oh well, no more maxamps for me. those were my last 2 packs from the first sets i got years ago. live and learn i guess. |
Have you tried the G3 VX's yet Dwight?
|
they are 20c so he had 200amps to play with, nomatter how bad they are, they should have been more than enuff
i agree that max amps is crap but im sure they didnt cause the failure |
Are you sure they are 20C? I remember them being 10C, and with MA's "creative" rating, they are probably closer to 6-7C. And since a 6s pack of those cells weighs a lot, I imagine current draws were high. Not sure if the cells had a role in damaging the ESC, but it sure can't help.

The Maxamps 10kmah packs were rated 10c by Maxamps(20c burst) - barely adequate at best when geared conservatively. The 2200 castle combo on 6s WILL draw in excess of 200 amps on hard launches. The batteries were NOT capable of this load. Period.

yeah maxamps are really bad and from memory they are only 10c cells

i really made a big mistake shelling out all that cash for those packs thinking they'd be ok for the G-Maxx. what i really wanted was runtime. to be honest, i never even thought to look for the C rating when i bought them. they were some of the first lipos i got and i just assumed all their packs were 20C. i never even looked at the sticker or the ad for the C rating until it was pointed out to me that they were only 10C....and there it was right on the pack and the website. expensive lesson, but well learned. maybe i'll get some of those hyperions. but now i think i'm gonna go grab about a dozen beers.:drunk: this has not been a good day. |
Expensive lesson indeed. The beer should numb the pain nicely, though. And a nice set of G3 Hyperions are a good choice for future sessions. :)

Don't worry man, your not the only one who's farked up being new to this lipo usage. Ruined $190 worth of SMC' batteries because I wanted to drive longer even though my LVC was kicking in. I paid for it dearly....
