Post your Mamba Max Pro Setup here!

Let's have a thread about RCM Member's MM Pro setups.

Please list vehicle, Motor, gearing, Operating Voltage and any other important information about the setup.

Then please tell us about your experience.

I'll go first.

I've been experimenting with a Mild E maxx setup on 6S.

Lipos are a pair of 6S 26C 2600mah Kong Power ran parallel for 5200mah total.
Motor is a HC 1600kv 8 pole Helicopter Outrunner motor. Has it's own fan.
Gearing is 14/52 Mod 1 (31mph on Brian's Top Speed Estimater)

Very torquey setup! Good Fun Factor.

Everything ran cool! I only seen the fan on the MM Pro come on one time!

This ESC is VERY smooth. Low Speed handling is very good. No Cogging at all.

I then decided to go 18/52 gearing. (40mph on the BG Calculator)

Much Better Top Speed, but this is when my luck began to run out.

The ESC fan began to cycle, and the motor temps began to climb into the uncomfortable zone.

Then one of the twin high torque servos began sticking and clicking, but the run continued. Then after a few flips, I heard the rear bulkhead snap. It only snapped on one side, but it's almost done for. :sarcastic:

The twin servos were still sticking, so I decided to check that out. Turning the front tires, back and forth from stop to stop. I noticed the lights would do dim on the ESC and the truck would not move forward or backward.

I found one of the servos had stuck and stalled. It's pretty obvious the BEC was being over amped. It didn't hurt anything in the ESC. I wonder if there's some sort of over amp protection on the bec?. When this happened, the ESC just would not respond. No Damage.

I intend to change this setup around, then try different motors, and voltages.

I'll post back more results to this thread. Stay tuned.

Planning:
Hot Bodies D4WCE 1/10 Buggy
MMP
Novak Ballistic 17.5T
6S 2000mAh 30C LiPo(home assembled saddle pack)

SpEEdyBL 11.01.2009 02:31 PM

Currently:

X-Ray T2R
Novak 17.5
35/78 gearing
2s Lipo

Will Try:
4s Hyperion G3 35C 1100mah Lipo geared much lower of course.

Will also try:
Tekin 1900 KV motor in my Losi 8ight

A note on cheat mode. I've only noticed a slight gain in top speed and a barely noticeable loss in torque when using cheat mode verses smart sense and 20 degrees of sensorless advance. However, motor temps run about 20 degrees warmer using cheat mode and 20 degrees of dynamic timing advance. I like how you can set cheat mode to activate at within an rpm range. However, I believe Novak motors are preset to 30 degrees of sensor advance, which means i can only set 15-20 degrees of dynamic advance in the MMPro to get 30 to 45 or 50 degrees of total timing advance.

I'm playing around with a Rustler Setup now.

It has:
Mamba Max Pro
Flightpower 30C 3200mah 4S
Axi 2826/10 920kv with fan, geared 14/38 using Mod 1 Gears.

It's rolling on a set of Slash Tires using 14mm hub adapters.

I ran it once today on 4S and it did great. Super cool temps. Tomorrow, out with the flightpower Pack and in with a Turnigy 5S 30C 3000mah pack.

Tranny is a XL-5 upgraded with the steel input gear and the Delrin Idler Gear. I'm sure it's not gonna last long and will be upgraded to the VXL Tranny when it goes.

Top Speed with the 5S is about 35mph. This combined with the smaller tires is what makes this setup work. Stock Drive Shafts are being used.

Smaller Tires take the place of a loose slipper and not put so much stress on the drive train.

I'm gonna play around with this for a few days, then install a Medusa 36-60-1500kv motor and gear up. That's probably when my tranny is gonna go bye bye. LOL

The MM Pro has hopped over to a completely different setup at my house.

Now it is in:

Emaxx
MM Pro
Turnigy Lifepo4 4S
HV4400 upgraded with the sintered rotor w/5mm shaft w/upgraded endbell
geared 14/52 using Mod 1 gears

Sensored operation is Smooooooooth. Low speed operation is almost Rock Crawler Quality.

It's zippy fast too when you stab it!

I'm loving it. I may transplant this setup over into my E Revo.

One of many like this to come into the RC drag racing scene:

Lockmann Funny Car
MMPro ESC
Tekin Redline Sensored Motor
Geared 15/87
2S Hyperion 5350mAH Lipo (cells from the reconfigured 5S pack I used in my 90mph Rustler)

I have a Mini E-Revo speed project that's I'm about to call it quits on:

MMpro
Neu 1115 2.5D 2100kv
45t Spur/47t Pinion
2x Hyperion G3 VX 1600mah 3s packs

Can't get it passed 86mph before the front lifts up. Not having fun with it anymore. Going back to the Neu 1112 1y on 3s/4s. MMpro has been perfect and never gets hotter than 130f.

I'd like to hear some settings for 17.5T stock 1/10th Sedan Touring 2S LiPo. What are good CHEAT mode starting settings for the class?

The thing is I normally run modified and no need to use CHEAT mode there (actually using another ESC). But one race will only have 17.5T Stock so I wanna try the MMP ;)

Gday Sunny,

What motor is in your FC? and what times are you running with that setup?

What benefits have you seen with the sensored setup?

Thanks
Brow

Hey Brow. Greetings down under!

I'm using MMPro with a Tekin Redline 3.5T motor on 2S in a new 1.05" wide tire/no wheelie bar class. ETs range from 1.8sec to 2.1sec. I like using it for the controlled launch off the line in Smart Sense mode where it starts off in sensored mode and then switches over to sensorless mode after a few feet.

Not in this funny car though since the class is limited to 12" wheelbase and under. A MM will be used in it instead.

For the novak motors, which have the sensors preset at 30 degrees, I've settled on about 15 degrees advance starting at 8-10k rpm. +18 degrees is too high. Gearing is 33/72 on the xray T2 platform, and temps are right around 160-170 after a 6min run plus practice laps.

Set braking force at 100%. Even drag brake should be set at 100%. The brakes are really weak. Punch control should be disabled.

Lauri 12.21.2009 08:06 PM

Thank you SpEEdyBL for those tips. I'm afraid I have only 2-3 practise runs before the stock race so not too much time to get used to 17.5 speed instead of 4 - 5.5 ;)
