Motor selection
Well, i decide to sell my supermaxx (or at least alot of it), and now i'm making a basher. I noticed that my car is never run, only worked on and saved up for. Now, i'm gonna sell a lot of the stuff so i can pay for my new motors and batteries. soooo
My new truck will have -12 matched, assembled side-by-side, 1.18 volt -stock chassis, stock shock towers, stock bumper and mounts, and stock body posts. -rpm a-arms -GA 7075 bulkheads, may sell for towerless VBS -UE 6 spy diffs, UE servo saver -Ultramaxx tranny with alum case -Ti skids So that was just some info for weight. Now here is some questions: -I'm looking into the C50 line of motors, should i get a 9L? I'll be running a 51 tooth spur, also, what pinion do you recommend? I'd like to buy from you mike, i don't really want to deal over seas. -I'm also looking for a center skid that covers the whole center of the truck i'll post info that i may of forgotten |

I would run the 9L - The can on the 9L is much smaller than the can on the C50. You have a lot more tuning options with the 9L than the C50 IMO. Also i would guess that running a 51 tooth you would probably run a 18 or 19 in first gear - should get ya to around 28-29 mph in first low 40's in second but motor and controller temps will rise fast in second... Your calculations are on the money, HotnCold. The controller can handle the gearing (well, depending on the controller). I will see if I can get my hands on a complete center skid for you (I know rpm makes a kit that includes front and rear wear plates and a center skid-is this something you are interested in?).

I don't deal with Hacker, so the c50 motor line is not something I can easily get my hands on. The c50 will dissipate heat better, but a heat sink on one of the "regular" motors will get you in the ballpark for that area. What are the specs on the c50xl(rpm/volt)? Do you have a link for a chart?

By "regular" I mean a standard size 540 can (not heat sinked can of the c50 motors). That motor chart is what I was looking for. The c509L would perform similar to the Feigao 8L motor. Very powerful on 12-14 cells. The c509XL would need a few more cells to realize it's full potential.

wow! Thats huge! So you can run a c50 9l with the same RPMs as a feigao 8l but with a ton more torque? This is awsome! I'm gonna run a c50 9l on 14 cells with a 9918 controller. Does this sound good?
Whose running a c50 9xl? EDIT: How does the plettenberg maxximum (not bigmaxximum) compare to the C50 line? do you have the kv specs chart for these motors? |
I don't think there will much of a torque difference between the two. They are most likely nearly identical in terms of internal construction (like the c50 maxx motor is similar to the 12s). That setup sounds like it will work just fine. should be plenty powerful, too!

okay, so i decide i'm gonna go with 16 cells. This truck is gonna be tossed around like a rag doll. sooo...
feigao 8xl 9918 16 1.18 cells all stock except rpm arms, steel cvds, ga 7075 bulks, ue 6 spy diffs, ultramaxx tranny in aluminum case (yep go my self a GPM alum case lea want, leo get), and proline powerstroke. now that you know the basic weight and powertrain of this truck, what gearing should i run? I still have that Dave strobeen slipper, but now that i'm gonna run even more cells, can i go to 20t pinion? |
The Maxximum's Specs
3150 RPM/Volt 10-12 Cells 1000 Watts 91% Efficiency. Max RPM 70000 I used to really like the Hacker line but then when I got into the Plettenberg line, I didn't look back. That is my personal opinion. These are 4pole motors which have more torque when comparing similar sized and spec motors. People talk about the Feiago, Hackers, Lehners, and etc but I think in my own opinion that the Plettenberg motors are of higher quality and have more power overall. I really like my Plettenberg BigMaxximums and if I was going to do another project, I would get me a Maxximum too. Right now I am thinking about getting me a Plettenberg Bolido, I call it (Super BigMaxximum). Muhahaha.. I will do a Dual if I decide to put it in my Jugg project. |
just a dumb question, but could the bolido fit in a emaxx (mounting screw pattern wise)?

I am not sure if it would fit in an E-Maxx tho I would never put it in my E-Maxx because my BigMaxximum is more power than enough.
I would only put it in my Jugg Project but 60 cells is a bit more than I want to put in and I would have to get alot of things re-engineered and redone to get the Bolidos to fit with 60 cells. I worry about fitting in two Schulze 40.160 or two of the 32.170k under my Fan. Also 60 cells is much heavier than 36 cells and yes 36 is still heavy as well.
