Help me select brushless setup for slash

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a brushless setup for my slash. Currently I'm looking at 2 options:

1. Castle mamba max with 4600kv motor

2. Novak havoc pro with ballistic 10.5T motor

So what would the best setup be? Its mainly going to be used for racing. I'm not looking for blistering top speed, only slightly faster than a stock SC10 would be good enough. I am going to run it on 2S lipo. Don't want 3S. Please give me some input.

Thanks

Welcome to RC-monster. It's been awhile since you posted in either Traxxas (I got banned) or UE.

I can't help you with your question though.

How about a Mamba Max pro esc and the Novak 10.5 motor? The 10.5 is prolly what your track specs, at least that's what I'm guessing since you put it up there and the MMPro gives you the ability to easily program the esc on a computer. If the 10.5 isn't a spec motor you may want to try something a bit slower as its hard to put any power down using sc tires of any kind

I think either would suit you well. The castle motors are smallish, but on 2s you won't have any problems.

I personally would get the mamba max, as it is a great controller and could be used in any number of projects down the line, where the novak won't do much outside of the platform you are planning.

I personally wouldn't use the 4600 motor. It's just too small/too high a kv to use in the Slash. When I tried it, I couldn't gear low enough to get temps that were acceptable to me. I would go with the MMPro and the 10.5 motor.

Agreed,
Actually the TRX Velineon 3400kv is the next to perfect SC motor paired with either a M.M. or M.P.

OR

Novak line in 11.5/10.5

if you do end up getting a castle esc, get the mamba max pro. the MM is a little dated and castle is discontinuing them soon. besides, why get a MM when you can get the pro cheaper. the amp capabilities are the same, if not better due to the fan, and it is also has the sensor/sensorless hybrid mode. also, you can go up to 6s with the pro.

Hey George! Thanks man. I sold my Maxx and Revo so I could concentrate on my buggy and truggy. Only recently got a slash, and also converted my buggy to a brushless. So I've been reading quite a bit on RC-Monster. Seems to be a good forum with a lot of educated people too. So how did you manage to get banned off the traxxas forums??? Did you annoy the moderators?

Anyway, back on topic. Thanks for the reply guys! I think I'll go for the MM pro with a velineon motor. Anyone know where I can get a MM pro other than from RC-Monster? I can't really justify paying US $28 for shipping... Pity Amain doesn't have them.

I'll post my setup, i'm extremely happy with it.

The electronics are MM, NEU 1412/1.5 (1850kv) on 3s 5000mah LiPo. First mod I did was a revo mod1 40 tooth spur with a 15 tooth pinion, no way am I stripping gears. Runtime is right at an hour, yep an hour on the track. When I'm done the battery and esc are room temp. and the motor is warm at best.

The reason I'm using the 1412 is because I had it already, a 1409 in similar kv would be a little lighter. The truck is not too fast either, in fact it's near perfect for the Slash. The truck is so light the motor isn't even working hard.

Anyway, hope you get you're Slash running the way you want because they are loads of fun.

That sounds like a mean setup! An hour of run time! :gasp:
I'm really happy with my slash. It's still stock, and I'm happy with the way it goes through the tight parts of the track, but on the faster sections I can't keep up with the SC10's. Can't wait to get a brushless! :intello:

couldnt agree with you more. im finding it difficult to get the right gearing/sweet spot 4 the 4600kv. although it is an awesome motor.

atm im using the mmp, soon with a fantom ion2 10.5 on 3s for bashing & 2s for racing. im hoping it should go quite well with 3s....
