Cold weather test on MMM and Turnigy Lipos

It was -30 out, so I only ran for a little over 6 minutes, but I'm confident that lipos are just fine in the cold and the MMM's conformal coating over the PCBs is adequate enough protection. A body helps keep the snow down a lot, but my mounts are all broken. A bit tough to steer with your chin, but this thing is a BLAST to drive on the ice!

I can't even imagine what -30 is like, let alone driving a RC outdoors in it

It took about 2 minutes for the screen on my camera to start ghosting really badly, if you spray water on any surface at that temperature it will either freeze before it makes contact or freeze on contact, the oil in your car is so cold the starter motor has a hard time turning it over, the oil in your transmission is so cold it feels like the shifter is set in stone, and your clutch fluid is so cold that it doesn't release until ~2 seconds after you take your foot off it. Freakin' sucks here, we need to stop getting our weather from Canada and start getting Aussie weather.

Yep :yes: LST XXL wheels/tires make a huge difference. I love this thing, all the advantages of a Monster Truck and a Truggy all in one great package. Too bad they discontinued it, I don't know what I'll do when parts get hard to find :cry:

i'll trade ya! our winter for yours. i LOVE the cold:yipi:
but our winters are mostly just 15*c average with sunny days and the odd bit of rain (makes good mudding/4wding season). last winter we had 2 weeks of non-stop rain but that was it, the rest of the time was dry:oh:
hmm....well i guess if you live at your place at the momentm the Nulon 40-70 engine oil is probably walk-able:lol: (it's only recommended for hot weather in 400,000km V8's as it is!)

i was looking forward to getting one. wonder how many parts they share with the LST (besides the obvious like diffs, and RPM has the arms covered)

The cold gets really old really fast. I'm fine in 20-30 degree weather but below zero blows. I run 5w-30 Mobil 1 and the stuff still gets really thick.

Sadly, they have been. I don't know how long parts will be available but sooner or later I'm going to have to switch to an LST XXL. The arms are about the only thing they share, maybe driveshafts (obviously not centers, but the wheel axles should fit). The diffs are a different ratio between the Muggy and LST, the LST has aluminum bodied shocks rather than the plastic Muggy shocks, the LST comes with aluminum diff cases where the Muggy comes with plastic. It's really unfortunate but they only sold it as an RTR and at $500 RTR they weren't too popular.

EDIT: The shock towers and body mounts are the same, forgot about those :wink:

so basicly you are looking at a chassis, CD mount and a couple of ring/pinions and they will be the rare parts?
the rest can be built from XXL or LST parts (also noticed they ditched the LST2 and kept the shatty LST1 aftershock:lol:)

We are having the same cold temps in Denver as you. At 7am today it was -16 with a -30 wind-chill. I hate it

I'm mostly worried about the bulkheads, I think those are Muggy specific and last Summer I got in a bad crash and messed one up hardcore (hit so hard I bent the screws that hold the chassis brace on). Ring and pinion don't bother me, I can swap to LST ratios, the CD mount isn't going to break, the CD itself can probably be replaced with one from another company, etc. but I'm mostly worried about plastic bits that will become hard to find.

I don't understand why they keep the crappy Aftershock, they're very cheap but built worse than an E-Maxx. A Muggy roller would be awesome, I should E-Mail them and see what their plans are for the Muggy.

the bulks are the same as the lst2, I think the only thing besides the frame thats different and cant get an aftermarket part for is the towers. You can use the new era lst ones but it will alter your ride height and lid.

just make sure you stock up on parts that arnt supported by aftermarket companies and cant be robbed from a similar platform:wink:

Yeah, I'm ready for it to be DONE! Maybe this year will be like last year and we'll get a break in February? The ground was dry last Feb, I even went out to Logan with some friends and blew apart some old typewriters.

With what? Sounds like fun, I love to blast shiat with my 9mm XDm. Were trying to get a CORR race system setup for next year up here, working on getting a website built so we can start some freaking racing in this damn state. Thinking about getting a Blitz and maybe a mini rock crawler lately...
