Where should I put my MMM?
 

Hiya,

My converted Hyper 8 is nearly done. I just need to do 3 more things.

1: Find a suitable place to mount the MMM

2: Find somewhere to mount the antenna

3: Find a body that will fit

The only 2 real options where I can mount the MMM is either above the center diff, but I think it's too high up and will be susceptible to damage.
The only alternative is to zip-tie/velcro it to the mudguard, but it's just a piece of plastic secured to the chassis by 3 little screws and I'm wondering if placing it there will be even less safe than high up.

In the last picture you can see how much the body is being deformed by the batteries etc, and I'm just wondering if there is another body that is higher? It's only got 2 mounting posts, so I guess that rules out any truck bodies.

The build looks great but having to mount your ESC there would kinda blow. Sorry your options are so slim.

I say, move the reciever and out the MMM on top of the servo, and then put the reciever on the mudguard or anywhere else it will fit.

Anyway, if theres enough space under the shell, then put the rx ontop of the center diff, then put the esc where the rx was. If theres a enough space that is- you will want ot be very mindful of all the little wires and leads concidering the spur and pinion are right underneath- use zipties and bases to route wires & bundle up excess. :yes:

that's what i would do.

Looking quickly at the pics, I would consider making a carbon fiber part to replace that Z shaped part on top of the CD. Basically copy that Z shape but extend the rear portion with a small platform to put the ESC on it and the use of the Traxxas MMM ESC mount would secure it firmly (but I really don't know if the body has enough room to do that). I would also consider running 5.5 mm bullets because with those, there's only a red and a black wire coming out of the ESC instead of a red, a black and a third wire to bring them together. Also the red and black wires of the batteries are separate so it is a lot easier to route the wires accordingly so that everything tucks neatly underneath the body.

It can be tough to fit everything under a buggy body. Your lipos are kinda long so you don't have room in front/behind the batt tray where most people mount their ESCs. That leaves the rx tray and CD area. I had to raise the body posts by ~10mm and even then I had to also cut the body a little to get everything to fit.

My conversions site has a couple of Hyper8 layouts that may give you an idea or two.

I mount mine like this . I know this is a truggy. but this is how i mounted my MM in my jammin buggy. In stead of it being angled . You could make it were it comes off the toplate then drops down about 1/2 inch . then make it extend towards the back so the MMM will fit .
