so i went to remove my motor for maintenance yesterday and noticed i had a missing tooth on my pinion. another problem is when i went to remove it the set screw is stripped. ive tried prying it off butt im worried i might mess my motor up. anybody got tips?

Did you loctite the pinion grub screw? If you did you may have to heat it a bit to melt the loctite. Try a different size hex driver (ie metric or inch equivalent or a torx bit, sometimes you can force one of those into the hex on the grub screw). If its totally stipped and you still can't get it out, take a rotary tool (dremel, die grinder) with a cut off wheel an cut a slot in the set screw so you can remove it with a flat blade screw driver. my last cutting wheel broke last night so im gonna try an extractor

Cutting wheel is the best, just put a slot in the set screw

or just slice the pinion down the middle parallel to the motor shaft and it will just fall right off

I had to do this once before after everything else failed to work. Sacrificing a pinion is a lot cheaper than a $ 150- motor.

When my pinion got stuck like this with locktite, I just drilled it out...didnt harm the motor shaft a bit.

this happened to me as well. I just drilled out the set screw and than ran a tap through it to cut the thread again. Just be mind full not to go to far with the drill or you will start drilling into the motor shaft
