uh oh
so i went to remove my motor for maintenance yesterday and noticed i had a missing tooth on my pinion. another problem is when i went to remove it the set screw is stripped. ive tried prying it off butt im worried i might mess my motor up. anybody got tips?

Did you loctite the pinion grub screw? If you did you may have to heat it a bit to melt the loctite. Try a different size hex driver (ie metric or inch equivalent or a torx bit, sometimes you can force one of those into the hex on the grub screw). If its totally stipped and you still can't get it out, take a rotary tool (dremel, die grinder) with a cut off wheel an cut a slot in the set screw so you can remove it with a flat blade screw driver. Hope that helps.

my last cutting wheel broke last night so im gonna try an extractor

Cutting wheel is the best, just put a slot in the set screw

or just slice the pinion down the middle parallel to the motor shaft and it will just fall right off

When my pinion got stuck like this with locktite, I just drilled it out...didnt harm the motor shaft a bit.

this happened to me as well. I just drilled out the set screw and than ran a tap through it to cut the thread again. Just be mind full not to go to far with the drill or you will start drilling into the motor shaft
