SuperShocks and Racing
 

Well I'm trying to start racing my BL-Maxx. I was wondering what o you guys think will be the best setup? Right now I have Blues in the back and reds in the front, and have no clue on the oil weight. Suggestions would be helpful.

Whats the type of track? bumpy? big jumps? explain we need details lol

Outdoor, 2 jumps to get nice air, whoop te doos, long straightaway, hardpacked but gets dusty, fairly tight except for the straightaway.

I have 50 wt in the 8 shocks with blue and reds front and back for balance. I don't race but and very happy with it.

From what I see, it looks like I might want to get 4 more shocks and try about 40-55wt oil.

i think 4 woudl be better actually since its lighter and less sprung weight. try 60wt and and the red in the front and the blues in the rear

ON the 4 shock set up i have 70 wt and black springs. It handles decent but not as good as the 8 setup.

Ok I got some 70 weight oil to try on the 4 shock setup before I procede to buying 4 more shocks.

Also, how do you guys have you suspension set? I got Proline Arms with Dace towers and its on the lowest possible setting. I think I might need to raise it some to get more flex in the sspension to gab better? Am I thinking on the right track?

You need to have it set so the skids will touch ground. If you have it set so the shocks bottom out and not touch it is going to break something when landing a big jump. I slide mine all the way in on tower and all the way out on the arms.

My skids hit before the shocks bottom out. I just thought that maybe more suspension would help me get better traction.

I need some help on rebuilding them. How exactly do you rebuild them, like do I just change out the oil, or do I have to replace things or what? In 4 years or R/Cing I never rebuilt shocks. And the instructions page on UE's website isnt working.

To rebuild you need to replace a few things. The little o rings in the bottom and around the top to seal it up. I don't know on a new piston. If they don't leak I wouldn't sweat it so much.

They're pretty sealed tight! The guy I bought them from rebuilt them before he sold them, but I forgot what oil he said he put in them.

What about getting the air out of them? I heard something about it but I don't know exactly what they mean.

Once its filled with oils, you run the piston up and down slowly to get out all the air bubbles. I have supershocks (ofna) on my mbx pro, they are pretty easy to rebuild. Just clean the out with wd 40 or something and clean the seals and such, if they look bad, may need new ones. Otherwise just build it up again, no need to fix what isn't broken there.

If the shocks were recently rebuilt, you can just put in some fresh oil. For a 4 shock setup, I run the black springs with 100 weight oil on my G-maxx(around 10 pounds rtr). Take your time and get the air out as described above and you will be happy with the results. A high wear item on these shocks is the shock end. Mine seem to develop play pretty quickly. I make a habit of replacing them when I rebuild the shocks.

Alright. I'll try out the 70wt I picked up, if don't like it, try out thicker, then 8 shocks it'll be if not.
