Monster Landmax

Gday,
New member here, so a big gday to all! I started reading this forum for the brushless and Castle Creations threads.
I've converted a Kyosho 4wd Landmax 1 to brushless. I am one of the last four LANDMAX AHOLICS worldwide, a very rare and older breed. The LM kit was purchased nearly ten years ago & just sitting on my shelf. Technology caught up, and prices fell, allowing me to build this beast with electric components.
The car is 1/8 and based on the Inferno. I tried alot of motors, esc's, batteries, pinions etc, before I settled on this setup now.
Neu 1415-1Y, Zippy 5000 MaH 30c 5s Lipo, Castle Creations Monster esc, using the monster bec, 50% punch, 0 timing, 15/51 gearing, ball raced tranny/wheels, eagle tree data logger, Hobbypro MP7 motor mount from rcmart, Hitec HS-5645MG steering servo, sway bars, Kyosho big shock option. I converted the 19mm hex to 17 with Ofna adaptors. Everything else stock, like drivetrain, suspension arms, dogbones etc. Car weight 3.4 kgs fully laden. The car is a brute and loads of fun to drive.
I hope any Landmax fans out there read this and enjoy. So far, on 5s, over 1570 watts!!! My face is hurting from grinning. My wallet is empty paying for tyres. We will get this car on Moorebank raceway NSW asap & shoot a vid with a pro driver.

Here is a quick vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPJGKgTASWA

Thanks for looking,
Regards
Peter

That is really nice! I never heard of a LM before. I will not forget it now. Welcome to RCM.

Looks like maybe a good drifter.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it. LM was designed for nitro .21. Comparison shot for you.

Thanks. More than likely my heavy throttle finger.

Thanks again.

With the 15/51 gearing & fast on road driving, we have never had the neu over 43 degrees celsius. On paper, I have alot of rpm, but realistically I would assume the LM's 3 diffs would be robbing some of that. The monster just sits there and does its job, quietly, efficiently & no fuss. I would also like to try 16,17 maybe 18 turn pinion now. But like many others, I would have to take the dremel to the mount in order for the larger pinions to fit. At one stage my LHS only had Novak Mod1 hardened steel pinions. At $29 each, they saw me coming!! There are hobbypro pinions now for $15, but I do not like the look of them. The novak mod1's have a longer neck and fit much easier to the motor shaft. I noticed a 3 pack at Tower, but they are/were out of stock. Also, as I mentioned, I changed the hex to 17mm to save my original landmax tyres for nitro. I need low profile tyres in the 90-95mm diameter range for the car to work and I have only ever found 2 sets. They are Louise pre glued rubbers and ATS foams. Again, around $30 for 2 at the LHS.
I'd like to post a CC Pro Tamiya F104 & CC Micro pro Xray M18 later. Under CC's as they use CC's.

Thanks again for looking,
Ooaroo

Urgeoner, ta mate. I like the realism of the Kyosho & Tamiya body shells. Alot more work to do on the handling of this car.

Gday,
Because I am new, I am not really that keen to post in the CC's forum about people's issues. This photo is how the monster is mounted in the LM. I have it zip tied & doubled sided velcro. It is mounted on a plywood square with a heatproof silicone mat from the Mrs tuppaware. Over that is a $3 wire mesh strainer from Coles, zip tied again. The blue rubber bits are from pens I nicked from a recent dentist visit. All common sense to me in a vehicle that vibrates and has no reason doing the speeds it is doing.

Nov 2011 update:

Kyosho Landmax is still going strong. C/C's Monster esc has not failed me. Neu 1415 motor has not failed me. Kyosho red centre spur has not failed me. Novak (grrr, hate) pinion has not failed me.

Still using the bec for braking a 3+ kg car. I have gone through approx' $500 worth of rubber -:yipi::lol:

I up'd the ante from silly H/K 5s to man power Hyp 5s 45/90c and no problems. FYI.
