Question about 1717 and "Neu" licensing
 

On another forum people were moaning a bit about how the new 1717 wasn't listed as an official "Neu-Castle" motor, and what that meant. I told them that I had no doubt that the quality was just as good as any other Castle or Neu-Castle product, but not everyone felt the same way. From the outside (at least in pictures) they seem to look identical in design, which got me a bit curious.

So anyone know what the deal is? Is something changed about the design so that it's solely a Castle product and not licensed with the Neu brand? Again, I'm in no way questioning the integrity/quality of the 1717, Castle, or Neu, and would buy it in a heartbeat if I had the money and proper application for it. Just wanted to see why the 1717 was listed differently from the others.

Looks like it still follows the basic neu design to me. It's definitely quality, that much is for sure.

Yeah, and Neu doesn't offer a 17 series so technically there is no need for the name recogition.

I agree, Travis - no doubt in my mind that it is the same old "Neu" motor technology. :)

Most likely- Castle owns the tooling for the stator plates instead of Neu. Same basic stator shape and layout though.

There is a 1700 series, but they are small, 1704 and 1706, only 4 different models, and looks like they are for planes or helis

I didn't mean to stir the pot about quality, or who deserves royalties, etc. I just wanted to see if the design had any notable changes from the officially licensed Neu-Castle motors.

quality looks great, but 45,000rpm is a kill joy

sounds like something from the noob forum to me. Castle's reputation is equal to Neu's in my eyes so I don't care either way.

the 45,000 rpm limit shouldn't be seen as a negative. plenty of torque to gear up.

there is the problem, i cant gear up 63/26 is the best i have found

losi makes a 59 tooth spur but the motor cant get close enuf to mesh right (it hits the transmission) and i havent found a place that makes over 26T pinions in 6mm

Your car list shows an lst w/centre diff......? With that you can gear it for speed runs.

I brought a custom made 30t from Dan ,it was 5mm thou ,he must be able to do them in 6mm ,you would think. http://kershawdesigns.com/

You can get the tdr colleted pinion adapter with a 6mm collet and then get a 25-30t pinion gear from rcm. Use that with the 59t spur and you will have plenty of gearing options.
