New motor for e-jato
 

Ok, so I've been using the CC 4600 in my e-jato for a while now and it works ok. But now that I'm running 3s and 4s, I'd like to get a motor with a little lower kv so that I don't have to go down to a 1T pinion. :smile:

This is an old truck, so I don't want to throw a ton of cash into it, which leaves Neu out. I've been eyeballing a VXL motor, but since it is a Feigao, I'm not sure if it will be a step-up efficiency-wise. Not looking for crazy speeds (but should allow it if I feel like blowing money on broken parts, lol).

I've also been looking at some of the Tekin Redline motors. These motors are ~50mm long which would be perfect as there is not much space considering where I mounted the ESC (and I don't want to re-do the layout yet again). I have a few spare MMPros laying around so I was thinking of getting a sensored motor. However, the Tekin sensored motors use smaller rotors to be inline with ROAR. I'd really like the larger sensorless rotor on the sensored motor.

The layout precludes using a Medusa even if I could find one since the wires exit the back.

Ideas? I really wish CC would build CC/Neu motors in the S form factor. Would meet my price and quality guidelines.

I have found the velineon motors to be of very high quality.. and more than enough for such a vehicle. Way better than the MM motors.. I've run Feigao's and funny enough you wouldn't know they were built by the same company iMO.

PS Medusa's are awesome though and the next best thing to a Neu iMO, I have a 4800kv 50mm in my Hyper STe and in my Hyper SC10pro, too bad they stopped selling those motors.

I'd bet you'll be happy w/a VXL Brian, There not to bad of a deal and run cool and they are far better than a Fieago.

Or at least release a few lower kv versions of the current 1/10th size lineup, like ~3500kv and ~2500kv. Maybe they just don't think they would sell enough of them? Personally I don't see the practicality of a 9000kv (maybe even 7700kv) motor, would rather have them get rid of the few higher kv motors and fill out the lower end of the spectrum. But then people wouldn't be able to say "ZOMG guise I got the 9000kv and a sidewinder in my rustler on 3s and it goez 120mph!!!!111!!!11one!!!11"

Too long. It has to be very close to 50mm long.

lol, tell me about it. I thought the 5700 was on the high side, and thought they were crazy when they released the 6900. The 7700 and 9000 is just plain crazy. Those must be something like 1T and 0.5T, respectively. I think they should have a ~3500 for 3/4s, ~2500 for 4/5s, and even a ~1800 for 5/6s. CC is literally forcing people to look at other companies' motors if they are looking to run 4-6s on the MMPro. And while they're at it, release them all as sensorless motors, but offer an optional endplate with sensors; just remove the endplate and put the sensored endplate on. Small redesign would make them a lot more versatile. This might almost make the higher kv motors more marketable since there would be less chance for cogging, not to mention high current starts since start power has to be set so high.

To tell you the truth, I am actually happy with the 4600 performance, the kv is just too high. The CC motors are not torque monsters, which is good to help keep the driveline in one piece.

I say medusa, that is if you can find one. I had a 50mm 4800 kv one in my old rusty juiced by a 3s lipo. VERY efficient and powerful set up. The mor always ran cool, even when geared for 60+. :)

Medusa would be great (I have 4 of them), but finding them would be a trick, especially the kind where the wires exit the side of the motor. Also, I was looking for something even cheaper. It's all good though because I ended up getting a new VXL motor from Skellyo for a good price tonight.

Yup, that would be exactly what I would need, except ~$40 too much. :smile:

If I had the cash, I'd get several Medusa motors for various future projects. They really are hard to beat price:performance. The only mod they need IMO is the endbell JBWelded or otherwise secured.

Castle really needs to come out with some CC/Nue 1406 and 1409 motors to replace their CMs36 series motors. There are really no higher-end motors at a decent price anymore. :cry:

I'm quite curious to see what neu will do with the medusa line, whether they will re-release it or if they just bought leftover stock to add to their own sales. We can dream!!

I love the Velineon motors personally but think on 3S and especially 4S that would be too much. May want to consider the Hobbywing 2230kv 540 5mm motors. I have one in my Slash on 3S with Jato 58T spur and 18T pinion and the truck is stupid fast on the track. They are dirt cheap. I have a NIB one for sale actually but they can be found lots of places.

This isn't for the track, just around the house. I run 3s now with the 4600 motor and it is just too fast when I want to just putz around. And I can gear down only so much. The 3500 will give me better gearing options, yet let me get crazy if I decide to go a couple speed runs (gear up and slap a 4s pack in there).

good luck keeping the trany together, the jato tranny doesn't like high RPM/torque...
