4x4 slash or crt .5?
 
which one?

will be ordering either by the end of the week.

heres how i see it..

4x4 slash.. will buy the RTR version
sweet truck
comes with 2.4GHZ radio
good design shouldnt have problems
400 bucks


crt .5
nice 4x4 racer
will buy spektrum for it..
conversions always have their problems but once there tuned right they are awesome
2-250 for RTR truck plus 1-150 for radio system.. so lets say 400 bucks also


selling my stampede and looking to get a 4x4 truck that runs off 2s... these are pretty much my 2 choices. the ls10 is nice also but i havent gotten any offers on here for them. (have prolly 5 offers on .5s)

i guess since this is up i should say if anyone wants to sell their 4x4 slash hit me up. this is not a WTB thread though so hopefully it will be able to stay open for discussion..

the ls10 is just too old and hard to find parts for. plus the small bearings constantly need replacing. I have one I don't need but just wouldn't feel right selling it to an RCM member. Ebay no problem:lol:

crt.5 is just plain tough, and the traxxas, is, well traxxas.

Having both, hands down the slash 4x4. The crt in my opinion is kinda just an in between toy that is neat to have but really not overly useful for anything. With out an extended chassis and 2.2's they aren't really big enough for rough surface/grass play. They may handle decent on the track but don't really fit in with anything else, they are kinda heavy for what they are so they have to have some pretty decent power, and finally, parts are available, but around here anyway you find anything for it on the local shelf. Yeah I know I pm'd you with one for sale! The slash on the other hand is a pretty dang big truck, run it about anywhere, comes with decent electronics, parts are everywhere, pretty light for its size, honestly about my only complaint with it is the slop in the a-arms. I have an rtr one right now that I bought as a roller. Took the stuff out of a 2wd slash I had. I have had a pe on backorder from tower for around a month, and ran across this one a couple weeks ago so jumped just to see how they are. Been well pleased with it, just has velineon stuff in it, running 3s.

I have driven both- Im a fan of the slash 4x4. the extra wheelbase is nice feature

The vileon system runs great in them

well i would only get the .5 with some type of extended chassis and i do have 2.2 racing tires i plan on putting on it, but after looking at the comparison.. wow... the slash is a beast of a truck

i may pick up both and see which one I like more.

when i get the slash i can run it on 2s though right? i dont own any 3s batts at this time

2S is actually better with the VXL system if you want things to stay cool. To get a little more speed, you would need to bump up the pinion a couple of teeth from stock though. On 2S, it's geared for right around 30mph out of the box.

It will run on 3S, but don't expect it to stay cool since it's pushing a 4WD vehicle at 45+ mph.

another question i got...

traxxas 2.4 GHZ system or spekttrum dx3?

sure hands down id say the spektrum is a better system but for me which do you think is better?

im not a racer, i dont use all the special features, i only have maybe 2-3 trucks it would run off of (MAX 3)

the only downfall i see to the traxxas is its lack of some type of screen.. so it can only be tuned to one vehicle at a time, and i never liked adjusting steering trim by a knob.. seems that it can move without knowing (ie bumping into the knob, dropping it, etc)

the biggest factor basically is price. ID pay 100 bucks for the dx3 system but dont really feel like spending more..

if i get the slash it will come with it and if i want to get another receiver for my other vehicles shoot its only 40 bucks NEW instead of 100 that spektrum charges

that is understandable. A freind has a rustler vxl and it came with a 3s batt. sure it was STUPID fast and had ridiculous power but it didnt stay as cool as mine.. i popped a 2s battery on it and it was still hella fast but now had better handling cause it didnt wheelie whenever you touched the throttle, plus there were no temp issues.

I have been kinda curious about the traxxas radio myself. From what I understand you don't have to tune it everytime, just turn it on and the truck on and it recognizes all the settings for that receiver, up to 20, as for endpoints, channel reversing, whatnot. For the trims, I don't really know how they work from model to model. If they are just a knob with no endpoints so the trim still changes with every vehicle, or the trim of the radio stays the same and you would have to adjust it to every vehicle, surely its not like that. It does seem like a nice radio, the lack of the screen does really suck. I am probably going to pick one up and at least put all the traxxas vehicles I have on it, to free up some room on the dx3s. On another note, I know you said you wouldn't have the crt without some sort of extended chassis, and 2.2's but to me that really defeats the purpose of the .5, I think the coolness is in its unique size. The one in my pic has the ofna extended chassis on it, and is still that small in comparison. What about a thunder tiger sparrowhawk? They are pretty much a standard 1/10 4wd truck style. Havn't heard much about them, or even seen one in person, but if they are durable seems like a pretty neat truck.

I just bought a slash 4x4 PE, and I love it. Its a tough truck, handles good IMO, and alot of fun. After putting it through the ringer (ended up doing barrel rolls + end over end a couple times) I did bend the rear stub axles a bit. But the stubs are the same as a Nitro Rustler so they're easy to find. I haven't tried the optional gearing yet, but mine stays cool on 3s and is plenty fast for now.

I was reading the manual last night and the Traxxas 2.4 radio has a 20 model memory and will remember the settings according to the reciever they were programmed to. So no scrolling through model numbers, just turn it on and go. It has EPA, sub trim, throttle expo, dual rate, brake %. THe knob used to adjust can also be locked, so accidental adjustment won't occur. It may be a pain to setup not having a screen, but if you "set it and forget it" it sounds like it'll get most people by just fine until you can afford a pricier radio.

anyways i got the regular edition 4x4 mainly because i wanted the radio and brushless system to come with it.

well see how it handles compared to my rusty!
